Nursing leadership is about action, advocacy, and critical thinking. It happens in all domains and roles of nursing. Nursing Leadership is important in the immediate lives of the nurses and also to the entire health sector, there in the health sector requires a steady supply of energetic and visionary leaders. It requires nurses who are courageous, credible, and visible and ones who can inspire, support and encourage others, they should also be authoritative, professional and innovative (AARP, 2015 ).
The information from in the article is important to me as it offers a lot of information about nursing leadership, from the article I have learned about the numerous leadership competencies that are important to any practicing nurse. These competencies include; compassion and sensitivity, decisiveness, doing whatever it takes, confronting problematic employees. Resourcefulness, self-awareness, putting people, putting people at ease, career management, and change management.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
I have also learned a lot about prioritizing leadership skills and ranking them from the most important down to the ones that are of less importance. It has also helped me with knowledge about the identification of nursing leadership gaps and the challenges encountered in leadership. The articles also contained information on how to fill the leadership gaps and I found it useful too ( Patterson et al., 2016) .
From the video I learning that nursing leadership is about stepping out of the comfort zone and taking the risks as it is the best way to learn and to get things done. This is because when you are doing the things that you are comfortable with you are not really changing, learning or growing. I also learned that leadership is about mentoring, bringing others to the table with you and encouraging others to become leaders too.
There were several things that inspired me as I watched and listened to the video. First and foremost I was brought to the attention of the campaign intended to create leaders who are able to work in uncomfortable working environments, adaptive to changes, decisive, able to lead employees and who are able to build helpful relationships (AARP, 2015 ) .
In my nursing practice, I will be able to apply the adverse knowledge that I have gained from the video and the given article in my daily activities as a nurse. I will be able to make helpful working relations with my employees and encourage them through mentorship programs to see that they grow into great leaders. I will also be able to apply this knowledge in change management as change occurs in the health sector. I will also be able to assist other employees by teaching ways to manage change as it occurs.
I will be able to apply knowledge on how to balance my personal life and be able to achieve a balance between my personal life and my career. Of most importance is that I have learned to see my weaknesses and strengths and how to possibly improve them. I have gained information on how I can think critically, strategically and make good decisions despite pressure. In addition, I have learned to come up with complex systems and also solve complex problems ( Patterson et al., 2016).
In conclusion, I have learned the art of fighting alone, being decisive, perseverance and the ability to learn from other people’s good work and mistakes too.
