Question 1

After using the blood pressure cuff for a long time, John noticed that it has started having diverse readings that were inconsistent. This situation relates well with the validity and reliability as these are two aspects that help determine the accuracy of a test or measurement. Validity will tell you how accurate a test is, while reliability will tell you how trustworthy a test score is (Mohajan, 2017). One can't get a valid conclusion from a test score unless the test is reliable. This indicates that John could not determine how high or low his blood pressure was. That is why it was important for John to use a reliable blood pressure cuff where he expects to get the same value unless his actual pressure was changing now and then. John’s blood pressure cuff could be termed to have a random error as it was unreliable because of the inconsistent readings. Therefore, it is important to ensure the accuracy of any gadget to ensure accurate results.

Question 2

For John to tell if his blood pressure cuff is valid and reliable, he needs to seek an alternative clarification on the results that he gets from his cuff. He can also visit his doctor, who will help him interpret the results or even determine if the cuff is valid (Froman & Owen, 1991). He also needs to use the same blood pressure cuff on different people at different times (Biasutti, 2017). He can then use the results to determine the reliability of the blood pressure cuff. From there, John can decide to change his blood pressure cuff depending on the results he gets ones he seeks a second opinion on the results or uses the gadget on different people but still gets the inconsistency.
