ActionAid nongovernmental organization is concerned with supporting young people and women to understand their rights as well as change their lives. ActionAid International works towards shifting and transforming power through campaigns, solidarity, empowerment, and the development of alternatives to make sure that everybody gets a chance to live a life of freedom and dignity (ActionAid, 2008). Currently, ActionAid international achieves its goals by targeting the structural causes of injustices and their effects on poverty. The nongovernmental organization connects these issues at the community, national, and at the international level with the hope of contributing to an equitable, just, and sustainable world. 

ActionAid International needs a strategic plan to fulfill the rights of people living in poverty, exclusion and strengthen communities’ resilience. Kabeyi (2019) defines strategic planning as choosing the highest priority achievement that an organization is prepared to commit to for a period of three to five years. ActionAid international as a large organization will need to involve most of its staff to ensure cooperation in its plan. Jamaica is one of the target countries for ActionAid International. The country is highly populated, with its largest population living in poverty.

ActionAid International Strategic Planning process 

The strategic planning process for Jamaica will begin with the formulation of a task force consisting of senior managers, board members, financiers, technical staff representatives, and other stakeholders. Staff workloads will be reduced to increase the working time among these groups that play a key role in the developing process of the plan. 

The second stage in the planning process is carrying out an environmental scan, which involves assessing and identifying threats and opportunities in the external environment of the nongovernmental organization. Additionally, the evaluation of the internal component of the business to analyze organizational weaknesses and strengths is carried out (Kabeyi, 2019). By carrying out the SWOT analysis, the organization can take advantage of all the opportunities in the environment and avoid all the limitations. 

The third step will involve the setting of priorities in terms of importance and time. During this stage, the organization establishes its vision and goals which are directed towards eradicating the Jamaican's problems. Vision, values, and mission are set, with clear elaborations on why the organization exists, its aims, and the results it seeks to attain in its everyday operations. 

The organizational vision is developed and stated clearly on the organization’s direction in the next three years, regarding the issues facing Jamaica. Vision statements include, 

By the end of three years, increase the number of women in formal employment by ten percent. 

By the end of three years, increase the number of girls attending school by fifteen percent. 

Minimize the rates of girls dropping out of school by ten percent. 

The nongovernmental organization involves a variety of strategies, including new services and products to attain its goal of eradicating poverty in Jamaica. One of the strategies ActionAid organization needs is holding rallies in which women are informed about their rights and how they can be violated (Kabeyi, 2019). Locals are highly involved in the processes to ensure that language is not a barrier in the achievement of the organization’s vision to the people of Jamaica. 

Strategies involved in the Jamaican project need to reflect ActionAid’s current conditions and its environment with the work plans and objectives requiring both the staff and management’s inputs. Later on, the output from any major step is recorded. 

An evaluation and monitoring plan is included, which ensures the goals and objectives of the ActionAid International towards Jamaica are monitored regularly. This step ensures the objectives can be developed annually with the strategies being revised (Kabeyi, 2019). Leadership is involved in this process, especially in evaluating progress and ensuring strategies are changed effectively. 

Strategic planning is a set of processes, tools, and concepts necessary for shaping what an organization is, its work, in the public sector. Public administration requires strategic planning as it promotes strategic acting, thinking, and learning on an ongoing basis to ensure the public resources are utilized effectively to add value to society.
