As an adult gerontology nurse practitioner, first I believe the profession is demanding and requires ample allocation of resources both financially and adequate qualified staffs. More resources will see increasing adult and aged population receive the most decent care both in rural and urban centers. The healthcare department should inject more funds to address the challenging issues of nurse practitioners who practice as geriatric nurses. The nurses serve patients suffering from depression, delirium and dementia and thus require special care. Therefore, proper adequate training for nurses concerned is not negotiable. Working under pressure may lead to fatigue and depression of the caregivers thus unable to give their best service to their patients .
Patient advocacy and collaboration is also important for geriatric nurses in this profession. Patients have a right to be heard in the development of new therapies, and nurses as patients advocates should focus on patient safety by protecting them from harm or any form of medical errors. Standard nursing practice incorporates any form of safeguard and questioning any goals of care when there is misalignment between patient-family and the medical team. Tabloski (2014) noted that innovative solutions on which adult gerontology nurses should focus on when trying to resolve healthcare problems entail having a passion for giving best quality care, functional status and reducing institutionalization. Providing cost effective, high quality preventive care will promote the profession in what it is best at improving patient outcomes (Tabloski, 2014).

Using the modern technology in diagnosing patients’ problems and providing critical care with modern machines will minimize mortality cases as long as the users are well trained on the same. Emergence of digital communication like video conferencing has helped to train medical personnel overseas thus reducing cost of travel and saving lives. Computers have assisted to store patient data, track patient medical history, medical research over the internet, and in electronic billing. Emergence of new legislative trends has also affected provision of healthcare to older adults. Changing policy at the federal level has affected the geriatric nurses in terms of conduct and terms of service. The nurses are required to get involved in health policy and legislations amendments more so on the issues that affect their service, to improve the patient outcomes.
