Advanced nursing has advanced over the years, indicating the importance of the field to people in the community. Advance Practice Nurses (APNs) have, over the years, been taking up responsibilities considered as caregiver roles (Kaasalainen et al., 2010). They took care of wounded soldiers and have, over the years, started taking care of terminally ill patients and the elderly.

Advance Practice Nurses are qualified to work in various occupational setups. As nurses advance in their careers they can work in a clinical set up such as hospitals taking care of patients, in the education sectors, for instance, as tutors, informatics, and health policy departments among others (Walker et al., 2015). I choose to work in health facilities to attend to patients and help contribute to improved health outcomes.

The need to increase accessibility and availability of healthcare and the need for high quality healthcare have facilitated the advancement of the discipline. These attributes, among others, such as being the best healthcare provider, have pushed APNs to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to increase the quality of healthcare hence advancement of the nursing discipline.

I have acquired various skills that are useful for improved healthcare. Some of the skills include organizational and communication skills more so collaboration skills with various professionals in healthcare. Teaching skills and organizational skills have also come with the career. APNs must have their duties and activities well-structured to ensure patients are taken care of and other duties are done as well (Pick et al., 2010). Values and ethics are the guiding principles for starting and advancing a career in nursing. Legal and statutory statues also offer guiding rules for the practitioners. These guiding principles are important as they help prevent legal cases brought about by malpractice and negligence by the healthcare providers.
