The world is generally witnessing an increase in the aging population which then translates to the growth in the number of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease which most of the old population is always grappling with presents asset of challenges to the patients, friends, families, and caregivers depending on ten stage of the disease. As such a lot of care is required so as to manage such patients to help them handle the disease and its impact in a more clinical manner. To do this, the families and friends of the patients may enlist the help of resident nurses are well equipped in the provision of care. The essay will focus on the patient in the case study by focusing on how to handle his condition to alleviate his suffering.

Alzheimer’s disease can ring a total overhaul to an individual’s life regarding how they socialize and view others and themselves. The male in the case study has gone through a complete turnaround due to the impacts of vascular dementia related to Alzheimer disease (Korolev, 2014). His once active social life is in the past, and he can no longer run his life in the usual way he did earlier on. The male could be in the middle stage of this disease considering that he has difficulties managing his finances in spite of him having been an accountant and is no longer following his regular social life routine of socializing with friends. Additionally, this male is no longer focused on his hygiene which further stamps the fact that he is in the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease.

Patients with Alzheimer’s disease require professionals to monitor and assess their health conditions from time to time so as to determine the kind of interventions to be put into place. The assessments to be included in the process are a cognitive assessment to determine the mental capabilities of patients, social interactions assessments to establish their social skills and behavioral assessments to check their maintenance.

The patient's spouse may need to adapt to the various changes that the patient will go through so as to remain a supportive partner. The patient will exhibit a different set of behaviors which will be an issue for his wife and will require various coping strategies to manage and help take care of her husband (Yektatalab et al., 2013). This, of course, will not be easier unless she gets some information on what to expect in the process of the disease.

Patients with Alzheimer’s disease require a lot of attention in managing the effects that come with this disease. To do this inter-collaborative referral who include family members, clinicians, counselors and friends (Galvin, Valois & Zweig, 2014). When all these individuals work together, the patient is likely to have improved outcomes.
