The American Association of Respiratory Care encourages and promotes professional excellence. It is an association for respiratory therapy that enhances the professionalism of those who practice respiratory care. It also improves their performance on the job and moreover helps to widen their scope of knowledge which is important for them to succeed. Apart from promoting excellence in the profession, the association serves as an advocate for the respiratory therapist, the patients, their families and the public.

The AARC which is a leadership institute provides a foundation for future growth in the career of respiratory therapy. Apart from adding knowledge, it gives the professionals a chance to interact with other experts, other leadership Institute participants, and authors. They engage in discussions where they can ask questions (Whiteman, 2015) . This helps the leaders to position themselves for future career advances. The leadership institute offers three different tracks of high-quality education. These are management track, education track, and research track. One can choose to enroll in all the three tracks or one of them. Joining the AARC requires professional certification. The new members acquire a licensure or certification. A proof of minimum training is also required. The requirements ensure that the leaders joining the association are professionals in the field of health.

Professional groups help the leaders to enhance their personal and professional development. It also provides them with endless opportunities ( Kacmarek and Walsh, 2017). The groups help the leaders broaden their knowledge, build a better resume, be better leaders through developing their skills. In addition, the leaders enhance their networks and become mentors. Since the field of medicine changes with time, the healthcare leaders are able to keep up with new developments in the field. Through the professional groups, leaders are able to network with others.
