In this paper, an overview and a reaction to the review done by the Monell Chemical Senses Center (2018) regarding a study on o will be given.

The main purpose of the article is to demonstrate how odors among people can be used to offer information about their health. The critical issue that the author is addressing is that people produce different kinds of odors that offer more information about them, which includes tips about their health. The most vital information in the article is that mice were injected with a non-infectious bacterial toxin that causes sickness linked symptoms. The animals were then co-housed with healthy ones. Comparison of urine odors between the injected animals and healthy ones later demonstrated that healthy animals smelled like the injected ones (Monell Chemical Senses Center, 2018). The main conclusion in the article is that the presence of odor-based sickness signals can change the odors of healthy animals (Monell Chemical Senses Center, 2018).

The key concepts that the article highlights are that different animals, including humans, can use olfaction to transfer information to other animals that can change their physiology and that the transferred information can also be involved in the transfer of disease. By these concepts, the author means that odors among different animals can be used to understand disease pathogens within a group of animals.

The main assumption underlying the author’s thinking is that odor cues related to sickness lead to biological changes in healthy people, which affect how diseases spread and how people socialize. If we take this line of reasoning seriously, the implication is that we can find a way to expose healthy individuals to the odors of sick people to allow the body to produce the required protective antibodies against the disease before being infected. If we fail to consider this line of reasoning seriously, the implication is that we may not be able to take advantage of olfaction knowledge to learn more about pathogens or disease within individuals or animals.

In conclusion, the main point of view that the article presents is that when healthy people or animals stay together with sick individuals or animals, the healthy group acquires the odor of the sick group. The information about transfer of odor can also be used to understand disease transmission among people or animals.
