Summary of New Approach Measures Early Human Butchering Practices

The article addresses a new system that has been designed to help in accurately measuring animal bone cut marks. This acts as a breakthrough when trying to answer questions about evolution. Researchers dealing with the project have found that using 3D-imaging and other statistical methods can help in measuring marks on bones made by prehistoric man ( Purdue University, 2017)

The story of human evolution has always raised controversy based on the accuracy of the tests and results used in developing the story. The implication is that there has always been the need to come up with a way of having accurate results and conventional. For instance, archaeological evidence provided to different experts always provides different results. The implication is that even experts cannot agree on how to classify different cut marks based on the tools used in making them. It is due to such variances that a new system is needed to ensure the accuracy of archaeological research.

Overall, human beings have different acquisition techniques over the years with some of the methods not yet understood. The only way that researchers can be able to understand the feeding habits of prehistoric man is through following marks made on bones from various periods. Getting accurate information is important to understanding and appreciating the steps man has made towards evolution. The significance of the marks emanates from the information that one can draw from such revelations. For example, accurate identification of a mark helps in understanding the tools used. One of the ways man has evolved is regarding the tools used over the years. Researchers have designed a way of creating 3D-shapes of the marks on bones whose sizes and shapes are compared for accurate results. Bayesian statistics are used to enhance the accuracy of the results.
