As a respiratory therapist after watching the video, it’s so sad how respiratory tract bacteria are greatly affecting both the young and the old. They are mainly Gram-negative bacteria which are very hard to treat with common antimicrobial agents. It seems like the newly unknown resistant bacteria are becoming a major threat to the lives of the human race. These bacteria are not only found in hospital settings, but some of them are acquired from the community (HUNTING THE NIGHTMARE BACTERIA, 2013).
I feel that people should try and make sure that, they maintain their personal hygiene at high standards. In addition, patients suffering from airborne respiratory infectious bacteria in the hospital setting should always handle with a lot of caution to prevent its spread to other patients. I feel that more research on these Gram Negative bacteria should be done to find better ways of managing them. However, when patients are put in ICU for enhanced contact isolation to prevent spread the bacteria, where the patient is very sick and vulnerable these can also predispose them to further risks.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
I feel that interventions that can be applied to save the patient can also put the patient at serious risk. For example use of lung bypass machines, the Gram-negative bacteria affecting the respiratory tract can live in breathing tubes predisposing the patient to more dangers. I feel that people should aim at prophylaxis more than the cure of these respiratory tract conditions (HUNTING THE NIGHTMARE BACTERIA, 2013).
The current trend of antimicrobial resistance is threatening to the respiratory therapy. Patient’s death rates will escalate in the near future if better ways of dealing with these dangerous resistant gram-negative bacteria are not developed. Patients will continue to lament in pain in their hospital beds hence, the government should come up with programs to enlighten its people on matters concerning respiratory tract infections (HUNTING THE NIGHTMARE BACTERIA, 2013).
To conclude, health professionals should stop using antibiotics that have a high propensity of inducing antimicrobial resistant. Doctors should be encouraged to use polypharmacy in their treatment to prevent future incidents of antimicrobial resistance development.
