In my opinion, search is significant to the success or failure of mobile computing in several ways. In the first place, I would agree that for mobile computing to work effectively in this era of technology, a nice search engine will be necessary. Mobile computing devices mostly makes use of search engines to conduct their specifically designated operations like word and video search and I think that the failure or success of any mobile computing device will largely depend on its connectivity to search engines. In regard to Kido Ayaunor’s point on development of related search applications, it is correct to say that development of search related applications and software’s by companies is a key aspect in the future.
Apple and Facebook have attempted to compete with Google in several ways, search option being the main reason. Kido’s response on creation of a common platform for application usage will make not only Google but also Apple Corporation to face tough competition from other small players. I would acknowledge that Apple’s launch of an Artificial Intelligence search engine called Siri and Facebook’ Graph search is a strategy by the companies to compete against Google. It is clear that the strategies to compete with Google in search engines are already in place although Google currently dominates around 80% of the market share. I believe that both Apple and Facebook’s strategy will succeed if they make it strong and competitive enough against google and at the same time gain more revenue.

Comparison of Core Competencies and Business Models of Apple, Google and Facebook
Apple
I agree with Angela’s point that Apple was initially developed as a company dealing with personal computers as its main business. Moreover, its business model mainly focuses on software and hardware of its products. Their hardware products include IPhone, Mac Book, and IPods while its software products include unique applications such as iTunes that are specific to iPhone users. However, I feel that the core competency of Apple is its design since most of the products are not only luxurious and beautiful but gives its users a sense of class.
Angela’s opinion that Google was created to be a search engine is correct since its business model is based on the Internet and mobile computing. In addition to that, I strongly believe that Google relies on versatile smartphones and devices that use various applications and the Web. Regarding Angela’s opinion, among the core competencies of Google is the creation of other branches such as Google+ which provides Google docs and emailing services to mention but a few. Google also took over the Android operating system and avails it to mobile devices developers.
It is correct to say that Facebook was developed for social networking for students in colleges and it still doing the same concept globally. I would like to add that among the competencies of Facebook is its large base of clients of around 1.5 billion users. This makes Facebook able to oversee and buy advertisements and promote destinations among others in efforts to raise revenue.
In a nutshell, Facebook, Apple, and Google are competing stiffly against the complete dominance of the online and digital market. They individually dominate in their specific categories but their research and investments have broadened their reach and dominance of the digital market.
