President Donald Trump continues to remain defiant, even as sweeping political changes have been taking place since his election. Trump seems to seek to ignite a political backlash from his previous support base. The 'forgotten Americans' who were his prominent supporters remain angry as Trump deliberately pity the white conservative aged Americans who support traditional American values. The old values are against the young liberal sectors of the United States. Furthermore, Trump's past activities have clearly shown that he has been invoking a well idealized historical vision of a country that has remained untarnished by correctness in politics.

It is high time the American people climbed the empathy walls. According to Hochschild, these empathy walls act as obstacles to an in-depth understanding of other people's beliefs. Also, the empathy walls are the things that make us feel quite indifferent or hostile to other people who have different opinions from us. The empathy wall largely contributes to the differentiation of American people into belief chambers, also known as echo chambers. The echo chambers are the leading causes of political polarization. Although breaking down the empathy walls can be very difficult and close to impossibility, well-developed empathy bridges can significantly help climb these walls.

Several steps can assist in commencing to climb over the empathy walls, and these ways are on a sociological basis. The first step to cross an empathy wall is to identify and acknowledge that both sides have a misconception about the discourse. The next strategy is to find common ground under which both sides can embrace their differences. The method is not only useful in climbing the wall but also efficiently disintegrating it. Another important and more effective approach is for individuals to distance themselves from their old safe zone and expose their beliefs to open challenges. It is also essential for the divergent sides to believe that there is always strength in standing up for what we believe.
