Animal conservation has been done in the form of zoos in various countries. Human beings are fascinated with wildlife, which is why these zoos strive to bring them closer to each other. Different species are displayed in zoos varying from the most endangered species to the least endangered ones. People find the animals attractive as they get to learn their behavior through observing them in the zoos. However, zoos do not present a safe environment for the animals. In most cases, most of the animals are purely for display instead of conservation. This essay takes the approach that zoos are a terrible thing for animals.

First of all, zoos maintain a stressful environment where these animals get to live daily. Animals are confined in cages and small spaces away from their natural habitats, causing them distress. Often, the animals display these signs of trouble through pacing back and forth, swaying and even bar biting. More so, they are exposed to unnecessary dangers in the zoos such as neglect, personal accidents, and shootings among others. There have been reports of animals dying in the zoos due to negligence by the caregivers, which causes starvation. Others have been exposed to shootings that killed them. Human beings have also had accidents such as falling into the animal’s confinement, resulting in death.

In conclusion, in as much as zoos help in the conservation of endangered species and provide a source of entertainment and learning, they do the animals more harm than good. Zoos act as prisons for the animals whereby they do not only have limited space but also they are exposed to grave dangers. Caregivers often do not understand the needs of the animals hence providing them with inadequate care. However many human beings love connecting with nature through zoos, the animals should be allowed live out their lives in their natural habitat.
