The video I watched was about a guy who stole a bait car from Burnaby and drove onto Vancouver. When he reached the highway, the car engine was disabled and police, together with the Burnaby RCMP, who were closely following the guy came and arrested him. I think the motive behind stealing bait car was to joyride. This is evident in the way he moved soon after stealing the car. "He drove the bait car from Burnaby into Vancouver, and then onto Highway One into Burnaby again" (Baitcar.com, n.d). It appears that the guy didn't really have the motive to sell the car into parts of transport drugs. He was just moving around with the car before realizing that the police were after him and that he was in a bait car.
The criminology theory that applies to this case is power control theory, which holds to the perspective that the cause of crime in a society is as a result of power relationships in people's daily interactions and domestic settings. The everyday relationship between friends of the criminal must have influenced him to go and steal this car. For instance, this guy may be relating to other guys with cars which they use to race around but he feels out of place since he doesn't own a car. This might have forced him to go and steal a bait car to have a ride and experience how his friends feel. The theory believes that the kind of people you get into a relationship with greatly determine one's behavior since you are likely to be influenced to conform and act in the same way the whole group does.
