Banner Health - A Top Rated Healthcare System in the US

Banner Health is a non-profitable healthcare unit found in the US, Arizona. This health system controls twenty-eight healthcare units (hospitals) and some other six special facilities cutting across six states. However, due to this diversity, this health system appears to be the most prominent employment firm in Arizona and the United States at large. As a result, it has not only led to the promotion of health services but also, it has played an essential role in society by creating job opportunities. Moreover, all health services that a patient requires are given at Banner Health. Herein, we will discuss its network structure, its readiness, a strategic plan that will address its current issues, current challenges that may affect strategic plan management, and also a theory that could be used to support in implementing strategic plans. 

Network 

Banner Health's network is made up of twenty-eight healthcare units, of which two of them are academic hospitals. However, most of them are found in the Western parts of the US. Banner was formed in 1999 after the Samaritan Health System and Lutheran Health System merged. This health system is an all-inclusive service provider that is responsible for patients care. It delivers services to its patients through the use of a population health management model. The system has adopted the use of electronic health record storage systems that have enhanced coordination and collaborative work in the health system. Like any other organization, Banner Health is made up of several leaders that oversee the running of the firm. Its CEO, Peter S. Fine, has ensured that the organization provides a Care Management that addresses the quality of services provided, reduces patients error, and also ensures that all patients are treated to satisfaction.

Banner’s Readiness 

According to Alltucker (2017), the firm was meant to undertake a restructure that could see it lose some of its high-level jobs. Among the plans in place is that the firm oughts to amalgamate its west and east sections located in metro Phoenix into one Arizona Community Delivery unit under a sole executive body. Also, these changes entail an effort of redirecting resources towards patients care. This might comprise the addition of some positions, such as supervision into the system. The reason behind these changes is that the firm wants to deliver the best services to its consumers as it emulates the evolution that the firm has been going through since its founding. Also, in its readiness to expand emergency services provision, Banner and Aetna have come up with a new firm that could be of significance in marketing health insurance to both large and small employer firms and individuals. Moreover, Banner is aiming at improving its services through consumer opinions. As a result, Banner has begun an ingenuity that is aiming at establishing reviews from both patients and consumers. This is to be effected whereby patients are supposed to take a quick survey on services delivered on their appointment. The survey should include whether the services offered are appealing or not. With this effort, the firm should be able to make changes to its sectors that seem to have negative reviews based on the surveys. At large, Banner is ready to offer the best services to its patients and consumers. This is why the firm is not afraid of losing some of its leadership positions. Instead, it is after providing the best services possible. Furthermore, Banner has improved its supply chain through the formation of an alliance with American Contract Systems (ACS). This has been aimed at promoting the self-manufacturing of all Custom Procedure Trays (CPTs). This process has enhanced the completion of visible end-to-end supply chain and also, the firm has taken charge of sourcing, manufacture, and distributions of its products. 

Strategic Plan 

Network Growth 

Banner healthcare is advantaged to have broad network scope of professionals and support at its disposal. The organization, however, intends to foster its network growth through actively collaborating with physicians, new healthcare systems, and also insurance plan. For this to be a success, the provision of quality and affordable services to its consumers is mandatory. However, the distribution of the firm's health services and the growing relations with new customers is what establishes the firm's growing network. Also, the firm has to take into consideration its physical growth, which is directly related to Network growth. This implies that if more structures are constructed, there should be more offices that can provide health services, and as a result, the number of clients should be expected to increase due to the diversity of the firm's physical structures. 

Nurse Staffing 

In this case, there should be a reasonable number of nurses that should be able to offer services to patients adequately. The firm should outline the goals that it expects its nurses to meet at the end of a certain period. This enables the firm to know whether it requires more nurses or not. Also, the HR system should identify influencers among the nurse staff. In this case, the firm should be able to identify the forces that affect service delivery in the system. Besides, the firm should identify talents among the team (SHRM, 2020) . This enables the firm to achieve its goals with ease since there shall be talent inspiration, which promotes quality work in the team. 

Resource Management 

The implementation of this plan should take a participatory approach. This is to ensure that consultations with the firm's stakeholders are achieved. The management should engage themselves in that they acquire medical resources from manufacturers instead of acquiring them from vendors. This plan is cost-effective since vendors usually sell their products at a slightly higher price since they also want to make profits. This helps save on funds utility, which can then be fostered into other sectors of the health system, for instance, increasing employee numbers to increase effective service delivery. 

Patient satisfaction 

In the case of patient satisfaction, several plans can take place to improve the quality of services administered to patients. This includes the creation of a multidisciplinary team that will be in charge of implementing a calmative care program. This generally describes the provision of proper nursing care in the health organization. However, it helps increase patient's and family's satisfaction levels. Also, another factor is implementing transitional care case management model. This model is meant to take care of patients as it ensures that nurses and any health service provider meet patients' psychological requirements (UK HealthCare, 2017) . As a result, this promotes positive reviews of the patients towards healthcare. 

Current Issues 

Just like any other healthcare institution, Banner faces a crisis of limited resources and support staff. Despite this, the firm's 31-persons EH&S members have remained focused on the creation of a conducive workplace for employees and patients. The factor that has enhanced this management is the responsible handling of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs). However, when it comes to the implementation of strategic plans, more so the nurse staffing, this factor may be a problem since the MSDS management system will be unable to cope up with the high growth rate of Banner. This implies that MSDS management needs to grow at the same rate that the firm itself grows. Failure to cope with this challenge leads to a lack of the firm's responses to vital EH&S challenges, thus affecting strategic plans (Verisk 3E, 2020) . Moreover, this results in a lack of patients' satisfaction. This is because healthcare service providers and also resources, for instance, medicine, shall be limited. This results in negative reviews from patients as they will now seek to look for places that guarantee them the best services that satisfy them. This results in the firm losing its clients. 

Model 

When it comes to the implementation of the strategic plans, the SWOT analysis model should be the best-preferred model. The reason why this model is the best is that it enables one to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and also threats in each plan being implemented. For any plan implementation to be successful, there is always a need to identify all of the four aspects. This model has several advantages to the strategic implementation of plans in Banner. For instance, it promotes maximum responses to opportunities; it helps identify core competency of the organization, and also it builds-up the firm's strengths. Generally, this model provides vital information that aids at the synchronization of Banner's resources and abilities within the aggressive surrounding that the organization operates in.
