For one to achieve their organizational goals, they need to have a strategic plan on how to go about it. Planning entails identification of goals that you need to achieve, making a strategy on how you will achieve those goals, and implementing the plan. Strategic planning is a biblical concept. The book of proverbs in the bible provides that: “Prepare your work outside, get everything ready for you in the field; and after that build your house. (24:27, NRSV). This quotation emphasizes on the need for prior planning before implementing something. In this essay, I will discuss strategic planning as a biblical concept.

The bible teaches us of a God who has plans and purpose for all of us. God also works to fulfill his works in one strategic plan and as his followers, this plan for vision and mission has been incorporated in our lives, and especially our businesses. Proverbs advocates for this very important function in business management and suggests that proper planning leads to success. “The study of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to want” (21:13, NRSV) Proverbs further implies that any person who begin their business venture with God’s instructions which are provided for in the scripture and given wisdom will end up being blessed. (Black, 133). The bible mandates us to follow the law and this spiritual mandate is what makes strategic planning such a good business idea in business practice.
As much as strategic planning is a good idea, we have to appreciate where the concept came from and the bible being one of the oldest sources information teaches introduced us to this concept. Most of the teaching in the bible inform us about the importance of planning in our business and failure to adopt this concept leads to the potential failure of the business.
