Professionalism in law enforcement is a demanding task as there are standards to maintain and integrity to uphold. The biggest challenge in the criminal justice is that the power of delivering justice is bestowed on people who are guided by ethics and standards to arrive at fair judgments. The problem comes in when these ethics and standards are in conflict with moral obligation and Christian values. While people tend to lean on the biblical worldview to draw guided decisions and judgments, the biblical worldview has presented shortcomings on some of the things it advocates for. This has led to confusion between what is right and wrong especially in the criminal justice.
The most simplistic definition of a biblical worldview is to have the mind of Christ (Autio, 2005). However, as a Christian one is bound to believe that man is sinful in nature, believe in inerrancy in scripture and the urge of service to God. Despite the belief in biblical worldview when academic and workplace culture set in a hard line is drawn between the biblical worldview and the real world. For instance, a standoff between a police officer and a criminal is a challenging situation. The bible advocates for preserving of life however, the situation at hand demands a tough call. Both the criminal and the police look for a solution to preserve their own lives. If negotiations don’t work then one must perish and the law favors the police.

Empathy, compassion and acts of kindness are Christian values but to which extent can they be offered. Most of the times in courts suspects are sentenced for offences they did not commit. When judges gives a compassionate ruling the ruling tend to be opposed as the suspects are deemed of not worthy compassion. The biblical view urges that people should always do good to others at all times however, it is always not the case when it comes to applying to real life.
Many people believe that ethical standards and religion are connected and that ethical standards are derived from religious principles and tenets (Banks, 2004). Therefore, it is necessary to exercise the power given in fairness to ensure it is not abused. There is value in fitting with other professionals in the criminal justice system however, as a person guided by the biblical view it is necessary to know when to draw the line and abide by the frameworks represented by the biblical view. Holding on to the values that stand for truth and justice is hard due to work subcultures and it is easy to be carried away and conforming to the ways of the world (DeWitt, 2007).
The criminal justice system is one department where there is rampant bending of laws to obstruct justice. Whereas very few people would die for the truth and the right thing the biblical view clearly advocates for doing all things in fairness and justice no matter the consequences. Most of the inmates are perceived as dangerous and evil but it is surprising to know some of them are in prisons due to crimes committed by other people. Moral obligation to pursue the right course lies within oneself and it is hard to know if a person is true to his course. In a world where there is manipulation and extortion by influential people to get what they want, it is easy to fall in such traps and it requires a person with very strong conviction in his faith to stay true to his purpose. The risk is great with no guarantees of a reward but the satisfaction of having done the right thing is forever comforting.
