So many blacks living in America still live in poverty. However, there has been an increase in the number of blacks who go to higher ranks white collar jobs as well as those who are international business people. The most worrying trend is that after getting to higher income levels, these individuals move away from the estates where they grew up and migrate to other estates dominated by the rich whites. Instead of using their income to improve the welfare of the black community living in the rural estate through provision of employment among other aid, they vanish from the rural estates, forgetting the fellow black community and instead move to do business with the rich. Due to this trend, a research is necessary to understand if the blacks living in America can provide help to other own impoverished community members. This research will contribute greatly in changing the social and economic lives of the blacks living in America by equipping them with knowledge on how to improve the development of the community. It will provide knowledge through which the blacks living in America can empower themselves both economically and socially so that their welfare can improve.

Theoretical framework

According to Du Bois (2017) , paying back to the community and developing own community members is an essential way to boost the development of one’s own society. Many people enjoy the intangible benefits of giving to own community. It gives one a pleasant feeling of connectedness and the satisfaction that one is trying to improve the welfare of own community. By the blacks helping their own fellow black community members through various development programs such as employment as well as other forms of aid, it makes the society a better place than it was and this can help lower high levels of poverty witnessed among the blacks.

Problem Statement

Many researchers have conducted research on areas such as the need for community development in general. While many scholars focus on researching the importance of firms and other businesses located within the community providing help to the community members, not much has been done with regards to the blacks giving help to own fellow poor blacks so that the living standards of the people can improve. Many theorists argue that it is the role of the successful community members to bring up the development to the community and lift those living in poverty. However, no theory has been directly linked to the impact on the lives of the blacks if the rich business class blacks give back to own community through aids. This research is therefore meant to fill the gap that exists.

Literature Review

Historians have been expanding on the concept of philanthropy to be something beyond huge sums of cash donations. Previous researchers have allowed the histories of traditionally marginalized African Americans to be included as part of the discourse. According to Jordan (2017) , certain class of black Americans were considered philanthropists; people who could spend huge sums of money to the community in forms of donations. However, the issue of blacks providing help to own community goes beyond just giving out huge amounts of donation. It requires a unity for purpose, working together as a community to give help to less privileged community members through provision of education, better health, food as well as general economic growth.

While the need to provide aid to the blacks who have been languishing in poverty for over years rises, the black churches have been on the forefront in providing various forms of help due to the comfort it provides and the ability to easily generate revenue ( DuBois, 2013) . As it transitioned from the slavery era to date, the black churches have been very versatile institution through which the black could present their philanthropic donations as a way of responding to the changing social and economic conditions that had at that time threatened the survival of the blacks in America. In his research to identify the role played by the church in shaping the economy of the blacks, Carson claims that through the philanthropic resources provided by the wealthy blacks, the church has been able to reduce the poverty levels amongst the black community living in America. However, there still exist many blacks who live under extreme poverty levels in America, rejecting the possibility of black churches having contributed greatly to the development of the black community as claimed by Carson.

Towards the end of nineteenth century after the church failed to fully change the economic status of the blacks, African Americans created several forms of organizations through which they could channel their resources ( Lasch-Quinn, 2017). This was done to address certain problems that was affecting the blacks both locally and nationally. However, these organizations never showed any significant impacts on the lives of the blacks. The African America self-help associations were often formed without clear missions, goals and strategies which lead to collapse of these such organizations ( Andersen & Collins, 2015 ). As a result, so many efforts have been made by willing African Americans to provide help to the impoverished blacks, but not much has been achieved. However, no literatures have been written concerning the need for all blacks both the rich and the poor to come together and provide help to each other in unity for the better development of the society. This can be done through the African American business people investing in their own community, living within the community to understand the problems and uniting together to solve these problems through both long term and short term strategies rather than just making contribution. Despite these literatures by various scholars informing of certain areas of the planned research, certain gaps still exist which needs to be filled hence the need for the research.

Research Methodology

This chapter discusses the research design, study area, population, sample population, sampling technique as well as data collection instruments. Each of these sections will be discussed in details to give a clear understanding of the study.

Research Design

The research will use a survey research design because it is best served to give the answer to the question. A representative of the entire population will be used. Survey is a method in which a group of items or people is studied by data analysis of a few people deemed to represent the entire population. It only represent part of the population, but the findings are generalized to represent the entire population.

The study will use both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative research will gather in-depth information to gain understanding of the economic impacts of the blacks helping own community members. On the quantitative method, the research will apply statistical methods and factual information to obtain data.

Population Sample and Sampling Methods

The research sampling method that will be used in this study will include random sampling. This will obtain more scientific results that will be used to represent the entire population. A sample of two hundred individuals will be used as a sample. This same will be selected randomly. Random sampling will be used because it avoids bias. Due to the large size of the population being studied, sampling will be the most appropriate for the study.

Data Collection Methods

The data will be collected using various methods of data collection.

Interviews

A group of people will be interviewed through phone calls. These will include various specialists in economics as well as community development experts. The interview will aim at obtaining the opinion of these experts with regards to the role of the blacks. Their views will be summarized and used to make conclusions in the findings.

Questionnaires

Questions relating to how the blacks can develop themselves will be asked. Various respondents selected through random sampling will be given the questionnaires to fill. A total of ten questions will be given to the respondents who will have one hour to complete. The questions will be categorized I two sections; A and B. Questionnaires will be used because it gives the respondents sufficient time to answer questions without any bias.

Data Analysis

The data will be analyzed using statistical means. A statistically weighed means will be used to make analysis. The means of the response rate will be calculated and compared while making analysis. Statistical analysis will be used because it gives a more practical results.

Limitations of the study

There will be certain limitations in the study that will have to be taken into consideration while analyzing the data. The first limitation is the respondents’ bias. The respondents may be biased while giving their responses. Time is also another limitation. Due to the large area that is to be covered by the research, it will require much time to cover a significant area.

Summary

The main purpose of the survey design is to identify whether the blacks can provide aid to themselves and improve their economic status in America. It aims at finding out if the educated and well off African Americans can offer help to the less disadvantaged people so that their economic status can improve. The findings will be useful in enlightening the blacks on ways they can improve and empower themselves without relying on outside help.
