tDCS is simply a brain stimulation that offers a steady lower levels of electrical current to an individual’s brain. Numerous studies have suggested the benefits of tDCS device in clinical population to treat psychiatric disorder and among healthy persons to enhance one’s ingenious problem solving and development of motor skills. Despite the diverse beneficial effects associated with the device, brain zapping gadgets need regulations to make them more efficient and ensure consumers use them for the right purposes.

Since tDCS devices are easily accessed and acquired there have been cases where individuals have been stimulating their brains using the device outside medical setting for their personal enhancement. The regulation of tDCS would help protect people from any irrational risk of injuries related to the product. Utilization of tDCS outside research setting has raised various issues among scientists since individuals often have ruined it for academic field. Such a misuse of the product might be harmful to a consumer hence the need to regulate it as a consumer device and be subjected to consumer safety and advertising laws.

Today, the gadgets can be bought online making it readily available for misuse and companies to manipulate consumers. Consumers might end up purchasing devices that are not safe and efficient. There is the need to ensure that such consumers have a different set of protection because some of the companies that sell tDCS have been reported to have made statements that are not founded on scientific studies to attract potential consumers for their gains. For instance, some of the companies selling this device claim that it can treat chronic pain, depression, addiction, and anxiety but can also improve cognition, social skills, and memory. Such deceptions have lured potential consumers into buying the products to enhance their memory, but this is unethical. Therefore, when regulations are in place, buyers will be aware of the product, usage and effects hence will be able to make an informed decision to purchase the device.
