The highly effective leader in my organization is the nurse in charge of the emergency department. He is a registered nurse officer that strives to ensure that all patients receive the best healthcare services and return home in good health. This process involves leading several groups and teams by incorporating robust interpersonal communication skills, managing conflict, and building and developing teams that function better than expected.

Leader’s communication skills

The nurse leader in the emergency department communicates tactfully, concisely, and clearly with peers, executives, physicians, staff, and interdisciplinary team members. He not only listens attentively to verbal and acknowledges non-verbal communication but also responds appropriately by asking intelligent questions, sharing valuable information, and soliciting input (Gerhardt, 2019). Since sensitive topics or conflicts arise from time to time, the nurse chief uses techniques to clarify misunderstandings and solve problems. This process involves acquiring facts accurately without distractions and prejudgement, recognizing emotions or unusual stresses, and showing sympathy. For instance, if a team member shows strong emotions, the nurse enquires more information to discover the root of the problem. He takes time to listen to conflicting team members and displays care and compassion, which are also essential for competent leaders.

Types of Interpersonal Power

In my healthcare organization’s disaster subdivision, work accomplishment involves saving lives, and so, the nurse head utilizes several types of interpersonal power. Such include the ability to make hard decisions quickly, to balance hard truths with optimism, the courage to face the consequences and creativity. A competent officer considers the consequences of his decisions and generates alternatives. After making final decisions with conviction, he gathers the courage to take responsibility for outcomes, whether good or bad. The emergency sector nurse chief also accepts hard truths since some decisions may lead to failure (Landry, 2018). He exercises resiliency and maintains optimism while focusing on new courses of action. With time, he uses creativity to address issues through organizational change. If met with resistance, the competent nurse director discovers the reasons and hence communicates on the importance of transformation. Additionally, he engages team members, and implements change in various stages while maintaining constant communication.

Team’s Performance

My healthcare institute recognizes the emergency unit team due to its high performance. The members perform highly because their front-runner inspires action by communicating his vision for the future. He strives to clear any hindrances that affect his crew’s initiative and natural creativity, which eventually helps in unleashing their energy (McDermott, 2014). As the nurse in charge maintains honesty and fairness, he treats all associates equally, making them friendly and positive towards work.

Groups’ and Teams’ Building and Management

Since the crisis department is comprised of several groups and teams, the nurse leader uses various skills to build and manage all. He makes time for his role by being frequently present and providing support. He also gets to know the team individually, which helps him to understand weaknesses and strengths, aspirations and issues, and potential threats (Bright et al., 2019). With such information, he manages the groups and teams through leading by example and rewarding the good. These tasks involve exhibiting desirable traits, encouraging respect between persons, and recognizing impeccable performance through appreciation.

Conclusion

The performance of the emergency respondents indicates that the nurse leader is highly effective in his leadership. His passion for the best healthcare service delivery is evident in how he engages with team members on a personal level to find out how best to inspire and motivate.
