Bullying, no one ever deserves to be bullied. It is not okay neither cool nor acceptable. I have chosen the issue of bullying in schools because it has become a systemic problem which is affecting many schools in America, and I, in particular, having been affected by it. Bullying can become subtle enough that instructors in schools cannot be aware of it. In normal life, a child is supposed to play, but that can be difficult when you do not have friends, I was one of the children who experienced bullying in school, it made me live a solitude kind of life. At school, I was made fun off, was around, abused both verbally and physically; this was very traumatic. All these happened because I was disabled; I was born without both legs, so the wheelchair became my legs. This condition left me with so many questions about myself, sometimes even questioning God as to why he had to create me like that, I out of six kids in the family being born without legs. The other kids in school made fun of me all day, John, a child from a well off family and also my classmate could call me every kind of names wherever we met, he teased me all the time, and that became devastating. As a result, I developed negative feelings of being depressed, cannot remember how many times I became lonely and harbored feelings of sadness. Bullying caused my academic achievements to reduce drastically. Earlier at school, when I was happily playing around with everyone at school when no one knew about the bullying, I used to be a performer in class, but that soon changed when I started being bullied. It came to a place where I even contemplated dropping out of school. The harder part about being bullied is to find someone to disclose your predicaments to; this too happened to me. I never told anyone about it, and no one ever realized it even though I was dying on the inside. I later realized that no one will ever help me overcome bullying other than I myself.

Bullying can become so hard to overcome; overcoming bullying can become one of the difficult things one can do. I am a grown up now, and I have never personally gotten over the aftermath bullying brought into my life but again will never give up until I do. Over the years, I have learned different ways of coping with the issue of bullying; it helped. First, I learnt how to manage and accept my emotions. Under various circumstances in which I was bullied, I experienced a mixture of feelings and emotions; I felt sad, angry, very law and all that generally affected my self-esteem. Accepting and understanding these feelings became part of my healing process. Most of the time, when the other kids made fun of me, I never became angry, because I knew being angry only affects me and not them. Rather than counteracting their acts, I reacted with a smile towards them, which made them feel bad about themselves. I was now not bothered about their actions, not anymore.

Second, writing down what I went through all the years at school and focusing on helping others made me overcome the scars brought to my life by bullying. I wrote down all experiences, places and times I got bullied. As I visualized about them while writing, I felt the sense of relief on the inside of me. Seeing how far I came with the bullying issue, gave me self-confidence, I obtained such strength. As I started gaining strength, I realized that helping others overcome bullying would, in turn, assist me a lot in overcoming mine. I started doing motivations talks against bullying in schools. Do you think it was easy? No, it was not, in fact, the first school I contacted to go and do motivation talk, requested me to complete my evening assignment because they thought I was a kid to motivate people. They were wrong; they never understood my goals or believed in my vision.

Third, ignoring bullies is another strategy I employed to overcome being bullied. The strategy worked best for me, whenever I could see my bullies on the hallway, I walked straight passed them and never gazed at them neither did I talk to them. I pretended they never existed when we walked past each other. By the time, I found a group of friends, whom I could talk to, share with my experiences and confess, friends played a bigger role in my fight against being bullied.

Conclusion

To conclude, bullying can come in many different ways, physically, verbally psychologically and even cyber bullying. The issue has become so complex in the schools today where the majority of both boys and girls get bullied. Although school-based bullying has endured through generations, it can be stopped using different strategies, like the ones highlighted above.
