SUBJECT: New COVID-19 policy
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to increasingly infect and kill multitudes of people despite the stipulations to reduce its spread. Cloth face covers are recommended in preventing the spread of the respiratory droplets causing the disease (CDC, 2020). Cloth face covers aid in source control as they limit the spray of droplets when worn over the mouth and nose. It is a much-needed recommendation, especially for situations where people cannot maintain the social distancing specifications.
Following the CDC recommendation, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) created a policy change to help safeguard guests and employees during the pandemic. The AHLA has provided a safety guidelines checklist regarding the pandemic, which will ensure safe travel and stay in hotels to mitigate the virus’s spread (AHLA, 2020). This memo is written to help elaborate the new policy change and ensure all employees know the provisions and what is expected of them in the workplace.

Employees and guests are expected to maintain the social distance stipulation when in common areas alongside wearing face coverings when in public spaces. Employees are required to inform their guests of the hotel’s various contactless options to reduce the chance of spreading the virus (AHLA, 2020). Employees should tell guests about the hotel’s online payment, reservations, check-ins, and contactless room service options. They should also inform guests that they do not need to get their rooms cleaned daily if they see no need. Moreover, employees must make it known to their guests that they should refrain from traveling if they have come in contact with an infected person or if they have tested positive for the virus (AHLA, 2020). These provisions will facilitate the safe travel of all Americans while also ensuring the tourism and hotel industry remains supported throughout the pandemic.
Employees are therefore expected to work together to implement this new policy. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected each business sector differently. It, however, has the potential to cripple the hotel and tourism industry. It is up to the management and staff within the industry to work together and perpetuate the provisions by the AHLA and the CDC. As such, all employees are expected to play their part in mitigating the spread of the virus within the hotel.
