In 2019, California State experienced wildfires that damaged structures and casualties. According to the California Fire Department, the state reported 6872 fire incidents that destroyed more than 200000 acres, damaged over 700 structures, and caused three fatalities (“2019 California Wildfires,” 2019). The cause of fires was different for each region. For example, The Sandalwood Fire originated from the burning trash at the Calimesa community in Riverside County (“2019 California Wildfires,” 2019). Power companies had cut the power supply to prevent new fires from the transmission lines. These power outages affected schools, businesses, and cell phone towers. The Saddle Ridge Fire started below a high transmission tower, injuring eight first responders and a civilian fatality (“2019 California Wildfires,” 2019). In some regions, the vegetation covers started the fires. The high winds broke tree branches that fell on power lines in other areas, creating sparks that started fires. The cadets, civilians, and firefighters embarked on the rescue mission. In Sonoma County, more than 200000 people were evacuated from their homes (Johnson & Kesslen, 2019). California state government made plans to address the impact of power shutoffs and provide care to vulnerable populations.

California wildfires taught people about the significance of disaster management systems and climate change. After the wildfires, the Californian residents realized the importance of adhering to evacuation orders and procedures. California Fire Department and law enforcement agency learned the significance of following protocol when responding to natural disasters. These departments learned how to disseminate information to save people’s lives. The wildfires also taught the Fire Department how to prepare for future disasters. Additionally, the wildfires made people understand that the impact of climate change is real. Dry vegetation cover, lightning, and strong winds were among the causes of the wildfires. People realized that Earth is becoming warm, and they expect extreme weather conditions that could result in casualties and destruction of properties. The wildfires taught people the significance of protecting the environment.
