Cargill Inc. is an American based multinational corporation based in Minnetonka, Minnesota, the USA. The company was established more than a century and a half ago and is in the conglomerate sector of the USA mostly dealing with the agriculture-based products and services. Cargill has established several production facilities across the United States such as that of Fort Morgan, Colorado. The production facility at Fort Morgan was accused of discrimination based on religion against the Muslim workers of the company and the firing of the protesting Muslim workers. The main point in the article is that the Cargill production facility has been mostly inefficient in observing the religious composition of its workers and their individual needs. The facility aggravates the issue by firing the protesting Muslim employees. I disagree with the decision that Cargill production facility at Fort Morgan made. Firstly, the firing of the employees who expressed their concern over the denial of their religious rights is a clear-cut indicator of the corporate society and its pitfalls as far as maintaining workplace diversity is concerned. Secondly, firing the employees is a miscalculated move by Cargill to control the order at the production facility.
As an employee, the article influences me. Firstly, it describes the reality of religious differences at the workplace and their effects. Secondly, it brings out a clear picture on the bad side of workplace diversity. An employee could use the information provided by the article to be effective in that they join hands with their employers in the observance of ethics at the workplace to ensure that both parties benefit from it. As of June 2018, the rate of unemployment in the state of Colorado was reported to be 2.7% (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2018). According to the EEOC website, Cargill's action of discriminating against the Muslim employees and firing them when they lodged complaints against the company is an indicator of poor management at the production facility and the likelihood of the company to face the federal laws regarding the employer-employee relationship.
