Leadership in criminal justice has proved to be highly demanding. The Department of Justice (DOJ) identified vital areas that include the need for observed adaptive changes, reading clues of the procedure from authoritative figures, and the necessity for listening to the song beneath the words. According to Moen (2017), Criminal justice leadership requires sufficient reflection on issues without quickly being drawn to emotive and impulsive decision making. One of the best approaches to ascertaining that criminal justice leaders can employ is applying the "Get on the Balcony," concept. The discussion anchors on how criminal justice leaders can effectively engage the idea of "getting on the balcony" to address critical criminal justice issues that are quite contentious within the justice system.

The state of the police in the country is currently under scrutiny. The majority of the population presents reservations on how officers of the law conduct themselves when discharging their roles. Among the emotive issues in police force currently remains the outright violence and brutality that officers have subjected black communities. In such instances, police brutality and perceived abuse are a socially entrenched issue but a complex aspect of American society (Shane, Lawton, & Swenson, 2017). When addressing such a case with underlying social undertones, it calls for sobriety among criminal justice officers. The fact of George Floyd's death in police custody offers a glimpse at the complexity and instance of the state of police as an issue today.

Criminal justice officers assigned to the case of George Floyd or any other related issues have to embrace the effectiveness of "Getting on the balcony concept. The death of Floyd and the blowback not only present criminal justice officers with the dilemma on social injustices, but the institutional needs that all contribute to the context of the current issues. From a balcony perspective, the social unrest and blowback that followed Floyd's death unveil the underlying social problems. Fundamental among such as the need for reforms in the country's police force, the lack to addressing systemic racial attitudes in our communities, and the failure of generational leadership to address the underlying issues that are now presenting themselves in the form of racial indoctrinations, violence, and protests across the country.
