This paper will discuss the following points regarding change efforts and their results: a description of a specific change initiative that I participated in that seemed to work well and a description of a specific change initiative that I participated in that did not achieve its intended objectives. A comparison of the two initiatives will also be carried out in terms of what happened and why I think the results were different.
To start with, the change initiative that I participated in that seemed to work well was the use of multi-colored waste bins. The management instituted the change to enable segregation of different wastes from the company and its employees to allow for recycling of plastics. I participated in labeling the different colors and what they represented. Everyone took up the idea and wastes got disposed in the waste bins according to their designations. This change helped the company in its waste management policy since only biodegradable waste was released in the environment. On the other hand, the change initiative that I participated in that did not achieve its intended objectives was rebranding the company’s products. Notably, the objective of this initiative was to increase the attractiveness and consequently, improve the volume of sales. However, the initiative failed as sales remained at the same level as before.

In comparing the two initiatives, the first initiative was successful since all the stakeholders were involved, that is, the employees and management (Bourda, 2013). Therefore, cooperation was guaranteed and the change realized. On the other hand, the second initiative failed since it overlooked the essentiality of conducting a survey to obtain customer opinions on rebranding (Hayes, 2014). As a result, the intended objective of increasing sales volume was not achieved.
