Every family in the world has its characteristics that define it. While these traits might be unique for some families, many families often hold similar views with regards to attributes that define healthy family relations. A healthy, united, and robust family does not necessarily imply one that is devoid of challenges and issues. Every family has its shortcomings and often faces its share of challenges. It is how the members choose to handle the shortcomings and mitigate the challenges that define the strengths of the family ties. The well-being of a health family is contingent on the social interactions on which the relationship of the members is founded, physical and mental health, and support for each other.

The strength of the family relations is enhanced by how the members spend their time together. Members of a healthy family partake on activities that bring them together like family meals and games. Spending time together helps members to be free with each other in that they can open up, and the other members can listen to one another. Besides, it helps members get to know each other more. It also creases respect and mutual understanding among the members. Respect between family members is vital. Every member of the family needs to be respected as he/she is accepted with their interests, qualities, and personalities. Members of the family should understand that each person has an essential role to play in the family (Patterson, DeBaryshe, & Ramsey, 2017). Conflicts may arise among members, but they should be attended to and resolved in a fair, positive, and healthy way. Every member's accomplishments in the family should be appreciated. Rewarding and motivations in the family keeps each member of the family on track, ensuring that everyone plays their role and duties since the other members are concerned. It is also in the family that children should are taught family values. These family values consist of specific actions and qualities that are vital to a family to uphold.

Good communication in a family goes beyond surface communication. Each member of the family has needs and issues which needs to be addressed. In a healthy family, members trust each other with their secrets and problems, and therefore, they are open to the other members. Even if it's not all member, but at least partners should share without secrets (Moore, Jones, & Alemi, 2016). Children should also share with their parents freely. Each member of the family listens to each other, and in case of a problem, they act together to find a solution. This attitude promotes happiness in the family. Positive communication is depicted in how the members create time for each other. Although parents sometimes are too busy during the day, table time where families share meals is an essential tradition that can ensure a healthy family. Families that share the table get a chance to communicate often. During meal times, mobile phones and televisions are switched off since they are destructors. Table time helps the family share feelings with other members without sarcasm.

A healthy family should also promote mental, spiritual, and even physical health. How members interact with others either within the family or outsiders, depending on the family. Sexuality should also be respected without discrimination (Moore, Jones, & Alemi, 2016). Besides, a healthy family will be concerned about the nutrition patterns of its members. These transcend food to hygiene, rest, physical activities, among others. Each member's health is a matter of concern to other members. A healthy family maintains routines to promote safety and injury prevention. Also, the family should consider health in terms of gender and sexuality. Girls child need special attention more so at adolescence. Besides, children are protected against drug, alcohol, or substance abuse. Violence, although members disagree, is not common and differences get solved in a peaceful and understanding manner. In case of illness or health problem, Strategy and decision making is observed in a healthy family. A family should be bound together during these times of diseases and use combined effort to ensure that they get through together.

Every family undergoes changes with time. Children learn from parents and carry will usually carry the attributes into adulthood. Interactive caregiving in the family is a ritual and tradition that is passed from generation to generation. A holistic family has a responsibility to teach children and adolescents their moral obligations and the need to respect theirs elders. This underscores the importance of children and newborn in society. As such, it is imperative to honor the social, cultural, and religious ceremonies and special days that are usually enjoyed by children. (Hargrave, & Zasowski, 2016). Taking part in community activities is another essential habit that parents should teach their children as they grow. Children are the future family, and they also need to be prepared on how to take care of the elderly, young ones and disabled.
