Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) is one of the most common ailments among the elderly people. In this country, this condition is prevalent among people who have just started their 60s. Health experts warn that COPD is likely to get to a dangerous level owing to the contemporary diets that many people feed on as well as their inactive lifestyles. This study, therefore, focuses on how Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder influences the mood disorders among elderly patients.

The elderly are among the most vulnerable members of society. In most cases, these people are susceptible to most ailments owing to their low ability to resist most adverse health conditions. Many elderly people suffer from morbidity and disability resulting from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (Mahler & O'Donnell, 2014; Gotlib & Hammen, 2015). So many deaths among the elderly are attributable to the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. Patients suffering from the COPD often experience fatigue in their limbs, difficulty in sleeping, and impaired ventilation function. These symptoms limit exercising among the elderly. Besides, they inhibit their normal activities and movements. People who are suffering from COPD experience a consistently diminishing quality of life.

Many COPD elderly patients lead a troubled life. Many a time, they are apprehensive of the deteriorating quality of their health. Therefore, these people lead a depressed lifestyle since they do not know how to tackle the symptoms (Rabe and Wouters, 2013). Others have a fragile immune system that the treatment rendered to them cannot cause any positive change with regards to their health. Consequently, they suffer from depression, which often comes with mood swings. More so, most elderly who get care from their children experience moody moments since they perceive themselves as a burden to their children who look after them while treating COPD. This perception often triggers moody moments among the elderly.
