History has it that many minority groups have had to fight for their rights to be respected and for their voices to be heard. Civil right movement is an excellent example of such a struggle. It took place between the mid-1950s to 1960s. The primary objective of the civil right movement of the 1960s in America was to fight for social justice for all people. People of color and women are two group that significantly influences the civil right movement. In this paper, we will look at how they influenced the movement and other groups that were also fighting for their rights.
After the civil war Slavery was abolished; however, the black people still faced discriminated. Therefore they joined forces together with other white people who wanted to see equality. The people of color wanted equal rights to vote, to access public services, rights to good education, and to proper housing and equal rights to employment.in order for their voices to be heard they held a peaceful demonstration, however, unrest broke in some instances. The black people can not take all the credit for the civil right movement of the 1960s; however, the greatly influenced it because the hand a lot to fight for. People of color led the way in this movement; however, both black and white women were allies. The women took part in the protest and also acted as activists. An excellent example of such women is Rosa Parks. She was arrested for not giving up her seat to a white man. Another example is Anne Braden, a white woman who together with her husband faced charges for selling their house to a couple who were black.

Mexican-American is another group that wanted rights. This group wished to empowerment for Mexicans in America through better education, restoration of land, the right to vote and right to farm workers. American Indian also wanted rights . they advocated for the protection of rights for Native Americans and the cultural and spiritual independence of native people.
