The terms “class” and “power” represent the theories on how modern society functions, and there are some relationships between the terms. Arguably, people with higher social status tend to have predominant power in the United States (Enns, 2020). Social classes have a wide-reaching impact on the societal influence of individuals. Throughout American history, the class of individuals has been the leading power network. Enns,2020 indicates that class constitutes the social inequalities where there is some conflict of interest. Classes set the stage where power can be exercised. Different groups have an interest in ruling over others within the classes.

Further, class systems assign positions and resources to people and groups who influence the weight and nature of the power tactics and instruments made available to them. For instance, rail workers on strike is an exercise of power considering the centrality of transport in an economy. Therefore, the class system particulars offer key determinants of power distribution in society. Lastly, class systems can create a subjectivity of powerlessness, resistance, and power to make new ways to exercise power. It may be a way of social control to promote powerlessness among subordinate individuals. Likewise, it can empower the subordinate groups to resist by making solidarity and collective action more attainable.

The film Inequality for all examines income inequality in America and its influence (Bernada,2017). Though violence and class intensely intertwine, power affects the state's will, achieve ethnic domination, and influences culture. Therefore, it is wrong to assume that power is the cutting edge for class conflicts. The course materials challenge what was taught about the American dream and equal opportunity. The American dream has always been to offer equal opportunities to Americans regardless of their social class. But as documented in these materials, those with higher social class ranking stand a chance to exercise power over the rest.
