The approach of using the DPSIR Framework 

Climate change encompasses a closer consideration of various aspects such as institutional, economic, societal, environmental, hydrological, and meteorological policy. These aspects of climate might be uniform across the Abu Dhabi region due to differing vulnerabilities found in the system. This is attached to other factors such as national policies and plans; meteorological predictors across the region; and various vulnerabilities found in the system. Due the presence of the above determinants, the information required for determining the Abu Dhabi regional valuation of vulnerability is composite and should be structured in a manner that allows a full-bodied analysis. This can be rationalized the moment the new information becomes apparent and can be used in assisting to communicate the major findings of the work. The adopted models should have the capability to communicate winds, surface hydrology, relative humidity, radiation, and heat transfer within each grid. They should also be able to evaluate the interaction with various neighboring points. 

DPSIR model shall be utilized as one of the approaches to analyses of both geographical and multi-sectoral scale assessments. DPSIR is an acronym that stands for Drivers, Pressure, State, and Impact & Response. In the context of Abu Dhabi, this tool will be used in provision and communication of knowledge on the causal and state factors dealing with environmental issues in the UAE region. Further, the DPSIR framework shall be utilized in determining the interplay of the socio-economic system and the environment, and establish the key indicators for these two players. The DPSIR model does this by stating that drivers adopted will put pressures on states, that will eventually change (or show necessary impacts); thus, responses tally with the management options to handle the undesired changes.

Analyzing the Conceptual Framework

There is need to study and understand properties of the DPSIR model as a measure of gaining confidence in its performance and quality. The parameters to check include: a driver-state control visualization functionality; a back-tracing functionality; a shorter passageway functionality; a cross-correlational matrix; and a consistency check. 

DPSIR model assumes that the key driving forces (such as climate change, population growth, and human activities) pose a certain effect on the environment; meanwhile transforming its state (denoting quantity and quality of natural resources); and finally the society responds by bringing moderation to these changes (through introduction of new policies and behaviors). The selected framework for the research on climate change in Abu Dhabi uses sustainability pointers in assessment of conditions. This corresponds with monitoring of changes and recommending potential response measures designed to moderate the already identified issues. It would be better to focus on developing water, solid waste, and energy sustainability indices grounded on the understanding of the Abu Dhabi’s priorities and needs. Authentication of the carefully chosen indicators and their assigned weight should be made with the help of the Delphi technique . This technique is objectively meant to enable acquisition of consensus information from differing stakeholders. The reason stakeholder involvement is encouraged is to ensure a resilient decision-making framework is formed. The weights will be assigned to every sustainability indicator by use of a pair-wise evaluation; whereby the significance of each indicator will be taken from stakeholder’s assessment of key indicators. By basing on that information, a selected numerical score for Abu Dhabi’s sustainability performance will be assigned. 

By conducting this study, it will be discovered that Abu Dhabi holds a low climatic sustainability performance, especially when compared with the average international sustainability performance. As a means of addressing Abu Dhabi’s low sustainability performance, there is need to obtain a closer coordination between the stakeholders during the entire process of environmental policy formulation. Enforcement of these policies would require that each entity has defined responsibilities and roles. Additionally, enforcement of legislation is meant to significantly transform the residents’ behavior and assist the Abu Dhabi locality to attain better sustainability performance in the coming years (Bowen & Ryley, 2003).

Doing a Vulnerability Assessment with the Help of DPSIR

This assessment would factor in place key indicators that would be used in assessing the general condition of the environment by using DPSIR model. The first stage would involve clear description of how human activity causes exertion of pressure on the environment as well as the production of GHG (greenhouse gases) right into the atmosphere. As seen in the paper, the discussed DPSIR framework is a useful instrument that Abu Dhabi environmentalists should use to structure the analyses of the relationships between cause and effect models of vulnerability to climatic change, and the consequent triggered response on the environment. The paper has explored the role that should be played by the policy responses and ecosystem services. The framework covered within the paper is significant in selection of proper pointers of vulnerability index, meant to determine the climatic change impact on the ecosystem and leading to the reduction of vulnerability. The incorporation of the response factor with both the mitigation and adaption assists in coping with the drawbacks posed by the Abu Dhabi climate change (Bidone & Lacerda, 2004).
