Response to: Daniel, W. Coca-Cola Question #2

The response provided by Daniel clearly states the issues that Coca-Cola India faces. The main crisis at hand is the allegation made by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) stating that the products of Coca-Cola Company contain pesticides and are therefore harmful to the consumers (Argenti, 2016). The response acknowledges the position of the CEO Gupta, as the primary face and reason behind the solution to the crisis. The CEO is expected to find solutions that will protect and keep the image of the company.

Among the solutions suggested, is the need to make sure the company differentiates the true claims and false claims made against the company. The company owes the public the truth about the allegations made by the CSE. The company should conduct an investigation into the motives of the CSE in attacking it and what it stands to lose from the claims made. The CEO should also look into the history of the company so as to get additional information with regard to creating a crisis management plan. There have been previous crises experienced at Coca-Cola and information on how these crises were handled can help to discern which moves are good for the company and which ones will be detrimental.

The plan made by Gupta is well stated in the response. The CEO intends to write a letter to the Indian Public. Attached to the letter, there shall be a page highlighting the myths and facts about the company. All these actions are meant in restoring the trust and confidence the public had in the company. Restoring the public image will assure the public of the company’s social responsibility (Lawrence & Weber, 2014).

Biblical integration

The Bible extols the value of the truth in John 8: 32,”And you will know the truth and the truth and the truth will set you free.” It would be best for the company to come out clean and tell the public of the standards of its products. The CSE should also follow suit and tell the truth about these allegations since in the end they will lose their integration and credibility.

Response to: Isaac, P. Coca-Cola Question #3

The response outlines the characteristic of a crisis adequately, with reference to the situation at Coca-Cola India. Crises are independent situations which are inevitable for any organization and should be handled well since they can bring detrimental effects to the company or business. The current crisis faced by the Coca-Cola Company is the allegation placed against the company by the Centre for Science and Environment that most of the products produced by the company contain pesticides that are harmful to the consumers (Argenti, 2016).

It is important to note that the fast and effective spread of information whether false or true has been facilitated by social media thus it was easy for the allegations made by the CSE to reach a large audience so fast. What was needed was a quick response from Coca-Cola and such was provided. The company was quick to issue a statement to the public to reassure them of the quality standards for their products. This has been compared to the crisis that the same company in Belgium. The response initially was slow and as such the sales and market shares tanked. However, the fast quick response given by the company in India was beneficial in restoring the trust of the public and was a great step at reputational management. It should be noted that transparency goes a long way in promoting the level of social responsibility that a company is credited with (Lawrence & Weber, 2014). It is also recommended in the response that a company should learn from its past crises and as such develop plans to counter crises in the future.

Biblical integration

The Bible extols the value of preparedness in 1 Corinthians 10: 12,”if you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.” Crises are inevitable for any company therefore all companies should be provided to face any crises in the event that they occur. These companies should recognize that crises are able to ruin a company and therefore the crisis management plan that is set should be effective and aimed at managing the reputation of the company.
