Formula SAE was developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in 1980 by the SAE student branch at University of Texas as a design competition among engineering students from around the globe [1]. The competition creates an avenue where the engineering students will engage in designing, manufacturing and competing in a formula-style race car. The senior design project is a joint venture between the Electrical and Mechanical Departments at Colorado State University [2]. When the university professors came together about twenty years ago to introduce the program, informal SAE as part of the student design competition, previously referred to as the Mini Indy none of these staffs anticipated that it would become a great event that would later change the entire motor racing world. The program was later changed to Formula SAE and became one of the global competitions for the engineering students [2]. It is also a training program for the race cars designers and engineers across the globe. Yearly, approximately 4, 000 engineering students become active members of Formula SAE at numerous Universities globally.
It is planned by SAE International formerly referred to as the Society of Automotive Engineers, SAE [2]. The primary objective of the program was for engineering students to design, validate, and race a mini-Indy style car. The design of the car takes into consideration the weekend racer in mind and ought to be designed in such a way that individuals who are limited to working in their home garage could effectively tune and repair their cars [3]. The prototype of this car is also to be assessed for its particular prospective as one of the manufacturing objects. From such a humble beginning, Formula SAE has today grown extensively into a worldwide design competition [3].

There are approximately 508 teams that were registered as of the year 2014 across six states, making Formula SAE one of the largest intercollegiate engineering design competitions. For Ram Racing’s 2017 third electric vehicle, dubbed the RR-EV3, the team is building on last year electrical system. All the hard work will conclude in a June 21-24, 2017 Competition. The specific target marketing groups during the race comprised of non-professional weekend autocross racers [3]. Every team of students will design, build and then test a prototype according to the succession of the regulation whose primary principle is to ensure that there is on-track protection and promote an intellectual problem management. Further, this prototype race car will, later on, be evaluated based on different events.
Various sponsors of these competitions offer awards for superior design accomplishment such as the best use of the E-85 ethanol fuel, recyclability, analytical approach to design and crash worthiness. From the start of these competitions, the car is scrutinized for the adherence of rules particularly throughout the technical inspections. Formula SAE further encompasses various elements of business such as researching, designing, developing, testing, advertising, managing, and raising funds [4]. Design judging volunteers include major racing industry’s prominent consultants and engineers such as Bryan Kubala, Jack Auld, Carroll Smith, Doug Milliken, John LePlante, and Bill Mitchell. Currently, the competition has grown so much to include a number of the spinoff events. Formula Student is closely related to the SAE-sanctioned events held in the UK and the Formula SAE Australasia known as Formula SAE-A which takes place in Australia. [4]. The impact of Formula SAE on the participant students has been shown to be substantially imperative and transformative. Majority of them are employed in various fast track jobs within the automobile industries, and there are those who find their way to the Formula 1, global top racing teams in CART and IRL.
