When working in any organisation, the major element of business operation involves effective communication among the members of the said organisation. The effectiveness of the communication is affected by several barriers which affect the effectiveness of the communication between the various members of the organisation. Some of these barriers may include but are not limited to physical barriers, cultural diversity, limited feedback, emotional interference, distractions, personal behaviours and unorganised information.
In my opinion, I hold cultural diversity as the greatest barrier to effective communication in any setting. Even though the world has opened up and has openly embraced the element of globalisation in all contexts, too much needs to be done in an attempt to harmonise the different cultures that interact in a professional field. The expatriation element has highly affected the work environment leading to a number f people leaving their places for new fronts abroad. The cultural shocks may make one retreat to their cocoons in fear of facing criticism and ridicule relating to their cultures and the manner in which they operate.

Cultural biases are also known to affect highly the manner by which the environment remains conducive for employee delivery. In this manner, many organisations tend to advance the element of organisations culture which all employees are expected to follow strictly. There are several other avenues through which the organisation can create a universal culture including standard moral conducts as well as the rules that apply to all employees regardless of their cultural backgrounds.
When not well managed, cultural differenced and gaps may make it very hard for the organisation to live up to their objectives, missions and visions of service delivery to their employees regardless of their social orientations. The cultural biases and backgrounds also espouse such communication barriers such as language barriers, emotional distractions as well as personal characters.
