Communication is an avenue that provides opportunity for holistic services in the healthcare setting. I concur with the author’s understanding that sharing of information helps to create a mutual relationship among care providers, patients, and their family members. In my opinion, therapeutic communication between care providers and patients helps the former to open up and develop trust in care providers (Mirhaghi, Sharafi, Bazzi, & Hasanzadeh, 2017). Also, technology has a significant role in enhancing communication. Electronic verbal and written communication facilitates the process of care in addition to saving extra costs incurred by patients. It also improves patients’ knowledge about their health. The benefits brought up by electronic communication in healthcare are enormous. Time wastage is minimized through electronic information transmission. However, electronic communication breaks the personal connection between care providers and patients.

It is evident that the code of ethics provides the nurses with the basis in which to conduct themselves while dealing with patients and co-workers. The code of ethics is an umbrella which protects the rights and safety of both patients and nurses (Edelman, Mandle & Kudzma, 2017). It also provides a means to solve arising issues in the care process. Technology facilitates communication in healthcare, although it loses the aspect of personal connection. Moreover, ethics can help rectify this drawback and enhance better care.

Effective communication is vital in the healthcare setting. I agree with the author that for efficient care to be provided, there must be a sense of openness between care providers and the patients. A trusting relationship is built through effective communication, thus enhancing holistic care (Ivanova, Dewey, Swift, Weinberger, & Hudziak, 2019). Though technology has advanced care services, it has brought miscommunication between care providers and their patients due to lack of personal touch. Text messages and emails hinder the expression of emotions, thus leading to misunderstanding. Hence, written, electronic communication should be used to pass simple messages where emotions and tone are not necessary. Telephone or face to face conversation is best for effective communication.

The nurses’ code of ethics outlines duties and responsibility for the nurses in the society. However, when an ethical issue compromises individual expectations, it also affects society (Ivanova, Dewey, Swift, Weinberger, & Hudziak, 2019). The nurses’ code of ethics obliges nurses to advocate for health for all. All individual patients must be treated equally in society.
