Communication is a way of making the interaction between people through speaking, writing or by the use of other medium ( Soegoto, 2018) . Business managers are always trying to enhance their communication skills so that it can help them when sharing or presenting their ideas clearly to their team members, colleagues or staffs at the workplace. They know the role of communication in management, and they try to better themselves with the best tips to make their interaction at the workplace to be more effective. This is usually important when having a face to face talk with people. It is always encountered during project explanation, presentation or training of new staffs as well as the current ones.

Entrepreneurs can enhance their communication skills and at the same time ensure that their message is effective with their audiences. This can be achieved in different ways: first, by learning to speak in public to a group as most entrepreneurs are always reluctant to speak before a group ( Arnold et al., 2015) . Entrepreneurs are not supposed to be afraid to do so as it is in a great position to hinder their career. Public speaking just like other things, it gets easier with practice. One needs to go out and do it, and each time it gets easier.

As an entrepreneur, getting your point across to someone else should not be difficult. It is often made to appear so, as we tend to think much about what we want to say rather than focusing on what is to be said to get the point across. This makes an entrepreneur be more effective at getting the point across to his/her audience ( Soegoto, 2018) . Listening to what people are not saying is also essential. An entrepreneur is entitled to develop the ability to listen to what his/her staff members are not in a position to say and get to know the truth. Many times, what the colleagues say and what they do not say are always important to the manager because it helps to understand the importance of listening to the employees.

Getting honest feedback from the supervisors, colleagues and your staff about your communication skills is the first step an entrepreneur should take ( Arnold et al., 2015) . It may look tough, but after explaining to them that you want to refine your skills and they are allowed to make their criticism if they are hesitant to provide feedback due to fear of negative repercussions then the manager in question should consider conducting an anonymous survey.

A good entrepreneur needs to know his/her audience and understand the diverse needs of each one of them and tailor their messages the way it is required. Some of the staffs may prefer informal in-person feedback which is done frequently while some may want to receive emails and attend meetings ones in a month ( Soegoto, 2018) . By knowing what their preferences are, it will be easier to communicate with each group effectively.

A manager can improve his/her communication skills by putting in extra effort at crisis time. Effective communication is critical during major endeavors. It requires a manager to keep the staff members more in the loop and failure to address them can lead to frustration and confusion as well as low morale ( Arnold et al., 2015) . So, staff communication should be made a non-negotiable aspect of project and change management.

Colleagues, staff members or teammates always want to know how their concerns will be taken when they have something to say or to ask. This leaves the entrepreneur with the responsibility to listen more and more closely to them and tune in when it is required instead of doing the talking all the time ( Soegoto, 2018) . Active listening allows the colleagues to get full attention and the response they might have asked.

Being an available and easy to access boss either physically or using a computer gives the staff members several options on how to communicate with you, in this era of open office spaces and remote working. It should not be taken literally, but the concept of keeping the door open to communication should be applicable ( Arnold et al., 2015) . They can choose either to communicate in person, email or phone. Whichever means one chooses, he/she should feel welcome and not like they are interrupting you. This ensures that the message that is delivered is effective to the audience.

An entrepreneur can improve his/her communication skills by painting the big picture in an organization that is, helping the staff members to understand what they are supposed to do and how it will help in achieving the organizational goals ( Soegoto, 2018) , when the staff members know that their work matters, it helps in increasing the engagement and productivity of the organization.

Embracing straight talks is also an important aspect to consider when looking on factors that can improve communication skills in an entrepreneur. Most workers value integrity more than the other traits in business leaders. So, it is necessary to ensure that quality shines in all interactions you are having with your teammates. Sugarcoating in an attempt to make the team members feel more secure and motivated is not encouraged as they are likely to backfire in the long run. Once the employees do not have trust in their leader, the communication will break down, and morale will drop. Straight talk with the employees is normally hard but is much better in communication strategy. An effective communication skill is a common phrase though it is a requirement in entrepreneurs or business managers today.
