The recent increase in crime have been attribute to police incompetence, which is not the actual case. What resonated with me most is that crime prevention is not only a responsibility of the police but also the responsibility of the broader society. The reason is that the law enforcement officers only form a portion of the criminal justice system, while the criminal justice system forms a section of the government and the government is part of the broader society. Additionally, the economic and social failures have made policing less effective method of crime prevention and reduction. According to the task force report, the police can only arrest an offender but can do less to removing the causes of crime. Examples of the causes of crime include failure of schools to educate students on adult roles, failure of parents to raise children who obey the laws of the land, and failure of the economy to offer them with employment. Therefore, it is evident that the efforts of the police to enforce laws will never be a solution towards solving the problem of crime in society. Moreover, most police departments lack adequate resources including up-to-date technological and scientific equipment, money, and skilled personnel.
The recommendation that I believe was incredibly important in addressing crime problem was that citizens must be willing and ready to offer the police forces with support they need to combat crime. Citizens are able to identify the likelihood of crime in their everyday lives and take sounds action to minimize the probable criminal opportunities. For instance, they can provide the police with necessary information and resources as well as taking responsibility of assisting the police. The implementation of community policing has proved to be successful at a national level, meaning it is an effective method in minimizing crime.

A recommendation that has not be implemented yet is developing public education campaigns that are effective and lasting, which will provide citizens with awareness that they can take the responsibility of taking precautions that might help in discouraging crimes ( Braga, Welsh & Schnell, 2015). Therefore, implementing this recommendation would contribute significantly towards addressing crime thus minimizing rate of crime.
