The green sustainability initiative for Dallas is based on balancing the economic, societal, and environmental needs to ascertain that the prosperity of today does not become a burden to the next generations. Dallas green initiative focuses on four major areas to ensure economic growth while also sustaining the resources for future generations ( Dallas: Building a Greener City, 2019 ). These four elements include environmental quality, green transportation, green energy sources, and the local green lifestyle. Dallas has focused on maintaining environmental quality by making efforts to act within the environmental regulations and reduce pollution. It is using education, training, and partnerships to build practices that are considered sustainable for the environment. Usually, environmental quality has been recognized in areas of reduced use of non-renewable sources of energy, improving the quality of life, and improving the quality of air. Dallas also focuses on green energy sources by exploring sources of energy that are sustainable. It explores the use of energy-saving lighting bulbs and other technologies that help save energy, and the use of renewable sources of energy ( How Green is Dallas? - Dallas City News, 2019 ). It has continued to explore new areas that can provide residents with renewable sources of energy and to ensure that it becomes the greenest city in energy conservation. One of the recommendations for the local government to create a green and sustainable community is to educate people on the importance of environmental protection and encourage practices that can enhance the quality of the environment. The local government can achieve environmental quality by introducing policies that regulate the use of non-renewable resources and waste management in the community to ensure that everyone adheres to the minimum pollution requirements and laws. Training programs and environmental policies are necessary to enforce environmental quality. The local government can also achieve a green and sustainable community by investing in renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind so that it can reduce the overreliance on non-renewable sources of energy. Investment in such sources of energy leads to not only green energy but also a green environment because non-renewable sources of energy are known for high levels of emissions into the atmosphere. Individual homeowners, on the other hand, can ensure a green and sustainable community by using energy-efficient indoor lighting that minimizes energy consumption. Using lighting and other technologies that can help minimize energy consumption is a method to reduce energy wastage. Also, homeowners can develop proper waste management processes by having the right procedure to dispose of their wastes without emitting them into the environment to cause pollution. Implementing these recommendations will create a community with a clean environment, both on land and air. Reducing environmental pollution can ensure clean air to breathe and clean water that guarantees a better life for the residents. At the same time, investing in energy-efficient lighting and renewable sources of energy would ensure that the community has a sufficient supply of energy to meet their needs and that of future generations. Energy-saving lighting not only helps save energy but also saves costs for individual homeowners.
