Confessions of Christ’s Supper are one of the greatest theological works of Reverend Martin Luther King during the 16th century. This piece of theological literature was written by Martin Luther asserting the real presence of the body and blood of Christ during the Eucharist. However, Huldrych Zwingli and Johannes Oecolampadius did not agree with Martin Luther on the real presence of the body and blood of Christ. Generally, this theological treatise is composed of the confessions of Martin Luther’s faith in the Christ Supper.

Confession of the Christ Supper is the theological explanation on the Lords Supper by Luther. Here, he clearly and precisely states his explanation of the doctrine of communion. Luther believes that the Lord’s Supper was to be clearly understood as the real presence of the body and blood, which is represented by the elements of bread and wine. The words said by Christ as they were partaking the Lord’s Supper, “This is my body” and “This is my blood”, were highly emphasized by Luther. Also, Luther argues that the effect of the sacrament depends upon God's work and grace, and not belief and worthiness of priest.

Zwingli was against the explanation of Luther on the real presence of the blood and body but believed in the symbolic supper of the Lord’s Supper. He argued saying that Martin Luther wrongly interpreted the words Christ said at the Christ Supper. On the other hand, Luther was against Zwingli as he found faults in Zwingli’s way of thinking. Firstly, Luther claims that the words “This is my body” and “This is my blood” should indicate the understanding of a real physical manifestation of the blood and body. Secondly, he claims that God can be omnipresent and local at the same time, pointing out the incarnation as evidence. However, for Zwingli, the Christ Supper has no involvement in the real physical manifestation of Christ’s body and blood. He held that the blood and body of Christ could not be distributed throughout to be eaten as the body of Christ is at the right hand of God. In conclusion, confessions of the Christ Supper are the combination of explanations and understanding of Christ Supper by Martin Luther who was a reformer.
