According to the dialogue between the nurse and the leader, the leader displays conflict resolution skills in different ways. The leader shows emotional intelligence and empathy by understanding the concern of the nurse and further explaining the importance of her moving to the assigned area (Johansen & Cadmus, 2016). He explains that the patients she had been assigned to need her expertise and may benefit from her services regardless of the geographical area. The leader also shows concern and offers a creative problem-solving solution (Johansen & Cadmus, 2016). He shows concern of the shooting of the location the nurse has been assigned and offers safety precaution by taking action to provide an escort to accompany her during her visit. The leader actions can, therefore, be rated on a scale of 7/10.
Earlier collaboration would have been beneficial to both the leader and the nurse. If the nurse was not interrupted, she would have expressed her view and feeling on the allocated area, and better solutions would have been implemented (Lamont et al., 2015). Earlier collaboration would have contributed to a better understanding between the leader and the nurses, and therefore all issues would have been discussed and solved bringing about satisfaction among nurses.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Additional skills, knowledge, and attributes may be brought to case management by the prepared registered nurse. This includes communication skills, empathy, physical endurance, emotional stability and problem-solving skills (Aydin, Sehiralti, & Akpinar, 2017). The nurses should be able to communicate effectively and express their views clearly to avoid misunderstanding between them and the leaders (Aydin, Sehiralti, & Akpinar, 2017). They should also have the ability to have emotional stability by not letting their family stand in their way with their duty to patients. In addition, problem-solving skills are crucial to a nurse to solve both family and work issues, hence, having fewer problems and distraction when it comes to offering their services to their patients. Finally, physical endurance is also an essential skill since nurses should be able to risk and endure any physical interruption to treat their patients effectively.
Communication skills are considered an important factor in nursing leadership. Communication strategies used by nurse leaders contribute to motivation and engagement the rest of the staff to achieve the goals proposed by them. From my practice, the nurse leaders use their communication skills to manage and engage the staff to perform their duties and even achieve the daily goals. They use their communication skills to inspire the team and ensure that there is an understanding among nurses. They also use their communications skills to ensure order by ensuring everyone has been assigned to their respective area. Their communication skills give them authority and how they communicate determines whether they can be respected and taken seriously.
