Part 1

The conflict arose among group members due to different perceptions of ideas that were brought up during the meeting. According to Northouse (2014), conflict occurs when two opposing forces come together. During this moment, members found themselves in a disagreement context where each one of them tried to prove the authenticity of their points. However, we still managed to solve the conflict amongst ourselves, thus resulting in an amicable agreement. We employed fractionation and differentiation as our main strategies in resolving the conflict, which I feel were essential strategies for solving our differences. Besides, we were able to build a community in our team. Community building entailed effective communication, member appreciation, as well as working towards a common goal (Dagiene & Stupuriene, 2016) . Encouragement among team members was also essential in building a cohesive community. Also, we were able to create a psychological connection among group members.

Part 2

From our previous meeting, I learned the importance of having diverse ideas among members as diversity of opinions will surely lead to a better solution to problems. In the case of any arising conflict in the future, I will propose a combination of the different communication strategies such as differentiation, face-saving, and fractionation to enhance proactive leadership in the workplace setting.

Part 4

This weekly meeting is about conflict resolution and embracing the concept of community building. My teammates and I met once again due to the rising need of solving disagreement as result of differing opinions which in turn delayed the team to realize its goal on time. According to Northouse 2014, conflict is mainly centered on communication. Miscommunication, as well as errors in communication, gives birth to conflict. One of the team member’s Ms Candy had researched about what conflict is and its causes. James, on the other hand, took us through how to identify sign and symptoms of conflict. As a group leader, I had to invite all the member to brainstorm on the causes of conflicts and how they would personally resolve these disputes in different scenarios. Through this small exercise, it tuned the members to working on team cohesiveness and collaboration as an important aspect in conflict resolution. Towards the end of the meeting, we had to go through the team goals of team in managing conflict to improve group communication and the problem-solving skills. In due course, the main observation narrowed down to group participation which had immensely increased as compared to the previous meeting, as now conflict is viewed as an opportunity to involve the member positively to straighten out their differences

I commend Rosalee for recognizing the challenges which transpired at the beginning of the meeting. The first step to conflict resolution is acknowledging that it exists (Northouse, 2014). Also, in resolving the conflict of the music to play during the event, I applaud the approach Rosalee employed as a leader. She demonstrates democracy as she invited all the views of her teammates about music they would play at the event.

The approach Alexis employed on the flyer content conflict to welcome the thoughts of her team members on the matter was clever. The realization of the importance of different beliefs, as well as value systems individuals subscribe to, is important in solving disputes. As a leader, Alexis exhibited so much prowess, given that the crucial trait of a leader is actively listening to both sides of the argument to find an amicable solution. Also, team collaboration is another of the positive approach, by using the term, “we have a plan to go door-to-door,” reveals Alexis effort to promote teamwork.
