According to the nurse practice act in the state of Nevada, the role of an advanced practice registered may extend beyond the standard of practice in relation to the population of focus and include taking record of medical history or carrying out physical examinations. This extension of roles is only permitted where a nurse has been subjected to proper preparations (Nevada State Board of Nursing, 2014). In contrast, medication aides and others nursing specialists who play population-focused roles are not allowed to perform additional roles that extend beyond their scope of practice as defined by the nursing act. Nonetheless, all the population-focused roles such as those undertaken by Advance Practice Nursing specialties, which include Adult-Gerontology, Family Health, Women’s Health and Neonatal among others, have similarities. According to this similarity, the exercising of these roles is subject to the issuance of an advance practice license that specifies the specific role considered (Nevada State Board of Nursing, 2014).
Some of the barriers to practice for the roles practical nursing and professional nursing include issues concerning of qualification and certification. These barriers are often associated with inadequate or improper training as well as failure to meet legal requirements according to the provisions of the nursing act (Cherry and Jacob, 2017). Lack of appropriate equipment and facilities also presents considerable barriers to practices when it comes to the population-focused roles played by practical nurses, professional nurses and other medical nursing practitioners. The other barrier to the practice of these roles is often occasioned by lack of adherence to the terms of service by appointing authorities (Treas and Wilkinson, 2014).
