This paper aims to discuss the processes involved in purchasing a mobile phone for business. Research indicates that a consumer follows five main steps before making a purchasing decision. The first step is the recognition of the need. In my case, I need a mobile phone for my business. Having identified the need for a mobile phone for my business, I need to search and gather sufficient information on different types of mobile phones available in the market. Evaluation of the possible choices is done, and options from the available phones in the market weighed. Having done the evaluation, I can purchase my preferred phone and finally, post-purchase evaluation will be done after my experience with the phone.
The need to have a mobile phone is inevitable for efficient operation of my business. I own a busy footwear shop in Detroit City that is managed by my employee who recently misplaced the business mobile phone together with contacts and we cannot trace it. The phone had all the contact details of my customers, and it contained the mobile phone numbers through which clients can reach my business. Therefore, I need to purchase a new mobile phone urgently to keep me in touch with my clients, especially through social media.

There are different models and brands of mobile phones available in the market as result of an increasing number of mobile phone manufacturing companies worldwide. The chance of buying a counterfeit phone has increased because of a large number of brands of the same product (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2017). Some of the most popular brands are Apple iPhone, HTC series, Techno, Motorola, Nokia and Samsung among others ( Elliott, Percy, and Pervan, 2011 ). Acquiring a smartphone will be a good choice since it will help in sharing photos of my products on What Sapp, Facebook, and Twitter among other social media platforms and I will be able to attract more clients. Phones come in different sizes with different sizes of screens. I would prefer a phone with an average screen size because big screens consume much power and small screens are inconvenient to use. In addition, battery life and the cost of the phone must be taken into consideration.
Having done sufficient research on different mobile phones available on the market, I have identified Apple iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel XL, and LG G6. The table below shows the evaluation of each brand.
Criteria | Apple iPhone X | Samsung Galaxy S8 | Google Pixel XL | LG G6 |
Cost | Ranges between $1000 and $1100 | Averagely $750 | Between $769 and $869 | Approximately $500 |
Internet Access | Very fast and secure | High speed internet access | High speed internet access | High speed internet access |
Battery life | Long battery life with Lighting Port that can charge 50% of charge in 30 minutes | Long battery life | Long battery life | Long battery life with wireless charging |
Memory capacity | Large internal memory ( 64GB-256GB) | Large internal memory with 64GB internal memory capacity | Large internal memory between 64GB and 128 GB, and RAM of 4GB | Large internal memory between 64GB and 128GB |
durability | High durability with IP67 dust and water resistant rating | High durability | High durability | High durability with water and dust resistant |
Additional information | iPhone X relies on advanced facial recognition to unlock and use Apple Pay. | Light and slim | No water resistance or wireless charging | Thick uniform body |
After an explicit evaluation of the above brands of smartphones, I prefer LG G6 to the rest because it costs cheaper than the other three brands despite having almost similar features. I like a phone, which has a thick uniform body, an element that only LG G6 has. Second in ranking is Samsung Galaxy S8 while Apple iPhone X comes at position three. Lastly, at position four is Google Pixel XL, which retails at high prices despite missing some features like water resistance and wireless charging.
I am fully contented with the choice for LG G6, and I can rate my level of satisfaction at nine out of ten. I believe that after purchasing LG G6, my business will resume normalcy and even expand. With fast internet access, wireless charging and a long battery life, I will be able to access more customers via online platforms and my customers can contact my business anytime.
In conclusion, it is noted that consumers are faced with purchase choices almost every day. It is crucial for the consumer to follow the buying process to achieve maximum satisfaction. Post-purchase evaluation can either create or destroy customer loyalty in a given product or service. It can also be noted that the cost of a product plays a key role on the market.
