Continuous quality improvement (CQI) is a philosophy that emphasizes the need to reduce waste and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of a process. In nursing, the emphasis on the CQI is on ensuring that the nursing process meets all the standards, and there is quality for every action injures takes in the hospital setting ( Kerrick, Miller & Ziegler, 2015). With the increasing emphasis on the evidence-based nursing practice, it is becoming the responsibility of the nurse to ensure that they understand and apply CQI for better care.
As a nurse, therefore, it would be critical for me to use the CQI to enhance my practice. While applying the CQI to my work, I would use the PDCA ( plan – do – check – act ) cycle. For instance, if I need to improve on my evidence-based practice, I can apply the CQI to introduce such practice during my interaction with patients and other staff. For instance, I would plan on the type of evidence I would wish to have, and the sources I would be consulting, such as the smartphone, other colleagues, the hospital journals, and articles. These are resources that would be critical for me to refer to when I need to understand a complete. I could also have a medical dictionary to help me understand the medical terms that could be confusing.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In the next step, which is “do,” I would act by ensuring that I refer or consult whenever possible when I am making a diagnosis or caring for a patient. I would ensure that in any case where I do not understand any medical procedure, I consult my sources or colleague to clarify with them. In the check step, I would ensure that I assess the result on the patients’ wellbeing after engaging in evidence-based practice. I will compare them with the cases where I did not use my new approach. If the results are positive, I will then insist on the use of evidence in nursing practices. In this manner, I shall have used CQI to address the need to use evidence-based practice to improve patient care.
