Microsoft is a leading global tech firm that remains credited for shaping the future of digital space innovation. Objectively, the company under its founder, Bill Gates, aspired to achieve global dominance in the digital sector through service to communities. The company has undertaken numerous initiatives geared towards empowering and elevating the communities in which it operates. Microsoft's corporate social responsibility remains diverse, considering that it has focused on projects that would ensure it operates efficiently and to the benefit of the global community over the years (Dudovskiy, 2019). The discussion herein highlights the initiatives the firm has undertaken in realizing its global environmental responsibility as a market leader. As Microsoft's policy, environmental responsibility covers various sections; these include reducing carbon emissions, waste management through recycling, sustainable sourcing of material, water consumption, and energy consumption (Dudovskiy, 2019). The elaborate guidelines offered in the Microsoft environmental responsibility policy highlight a firm's commitment to safeguarding global communities through encouraging and implementing sustainable approaches in its operations. The article by Jay Greene (2020) covers the plans by Microsoft Company to reduce its global carbon emission and footprint from the years 1975 to 2050. In her address, the company pledged to take targeted actions towards removing and reducing its carbon emissions since inception while limiting any further emissions heading to 2050. According to Greene (2020), the company's President Brad Smith expressed commitment to helping to fight global warming by reducing carbon emissions. The firm's Chief expressed admiration of the initiatives undertaken by their competitor Amazon and, in part, assured the audience of bolder and more robust steps that will outline Microsoft's approach to tackling global warming and carbon emissions. The planned initiatives by Microsoft remain in tandem with her revenue generation objectives. The efforts to reduce emissions would mean that the company improves operational efficiencies, rethink its material sourcing methods, and attracts investors and eco-conscious customers. I believe the company could do more through this initiative to support and benefit the public. Taking a communal-based approach would mean that the firm engages communities in carbon reduction programs such as ecological regeneration and rehabilitation. Such initiatives would see communities generate income through participation. If I were the President, I would stick to environmental initiatives as part of my critical social responsibility. As a global leader, Microsoft should be seen as a global champion, and none comes closer to ecological responsibility.
