The Black Lives Matter is an international social movement and activist group that is a major made up of the African American community. The major goal of this social movement is to carry out a campaign against the acts of violence and institutional injustices on African Americans. The Black Lives Matter social movement focuses on ending the police killings of African Americans using different approaches. The issues include racial profiling, brutality, and racial injustices within the criminal justice system. The social movement uses social media mobilization and protests as a way to make their voice be heard and present their concerns. Since its formation, Black Lives Matter has significantly played a positive role in enhancing justice and the creation of equality for Africa Americans through a unified voice. From involvement in mass street protests to mobilization, the social movement has led to positive change in the lives of people of color. The other wing of the argument has, however, held that Black Lives Matter has had little impact in America and has instead led to violence and more deaths based on their confrontational nature. However, this movement has led to increased awareness of racial discrimination within the criminal justice system, raised the issue of police brutality, and created a change to end institutionalized racism in America.

The Black Lives Matter has, over the years, played a decisive role in promoting awareness in the existence of racial discrimination within the criminal system. Through protests and social media mobilization, the group has stood out firmly and with a unified voice against racial discrimination against the blacks ( Obasogie & Newman, 2016 ). For the many people who have been racially targeted by law enforcement officers, this social movement has provided a loud voice for change. The movement has been successful in exposing the acts of racism that goes on within the law enforcement department. Before its emergence, there was limited information on the unfair target-directed towards the people of color by the police. As a result, many blacks were unfairly arrested and locked up in the police cells without any apparent reason. The Black Lives Matter movement has come out strongly to promote awareness on the issue and put pressure on the government to end racism against the people of color. Even though the achievement of the group remains unquantifiable, it has been at the forefront in raising awareness through protests to protect the black community from unfair police targeting.

The Black Lives Matter movement has notable impacts on exposing and reducing the issue of police brutality against African Americans. By drawing attention and raising public concerns, the Black Lives Matter movement has undoubtedly changed the initial harsh treatment and brutality the police had on the blacks ( Taylor, 2016 ). Many cases of severe police beatings and killings of the blacks in America were common before the formation of this movement. The blacks did not have voice over the brutal treatment by the police. Many cases of police shooting unarmed African Americans and sometimes labeling them as criminals were common within the law enforcement department. The Black Lives Matter managed to bring these brutalities to the awareness of the public and subjected the police to public scrutiny. It became the topic in the media and gained attention from the political class, which came as a boost to its fight for justice in America.

The efforts by the Black Lives Matter movement has been able to create change that seeks to end institutionalized racism in America. Through protests, the organization pushes for change in these institutions. The group wins some of the cases as a show of success in their struggle against oppression ( Rickford, 2016 ). The group continues to emerge victorious in cultivating the need for dialogue that offers a unified voice against racial inequality that exists within the law enforcement department.

The critics of the Black Lives Matter movement hold that the group is overly confrontational, creating tension between the police and blacks, which leads to violence. The critics view this group as a significant cause of violence and disruption due to its approach to activism. Due to the overly confrontational nature of its protests, the relationships between police and people of color have been worsening ( Rickford, 2016 ). However, research shows the relationship between the police and African Americans has been historically poor over many years. Even though balmed for its confrontational approach, the Black Lives Matter movement has been effective in the way it raises its concerns on the mistreatment of the blacks by the police.

In conclusion, the Black Lives Matter movement has been able to cultivate a dialogue throughout America by creating a unified voice against the end of police brutality and institutionalized racism. It has been successful in promoting awareness and raising concerns over the mistreatment of the blacks by the police. Due to its efforts to create equality, this group has not only drawn attention not only from the media but also from the political class. Even though critics accuse it of stimulating violence with the police, this movement has had a positive impact on the lives of African Americans. It has been able to put the police under scrutiny and call for change to ensure equal treatment of all people irrespective of color.
