Evidence that is collected in a crime scene

Firearms evidence can be recovered from a range of places and methods. Firearms can be retrieved at shooting scenes by crime investigators. However, other evidence, such as bullets and bullet cartridges, shot shells, and wadding g are also collected (King et al., 2017). Forensic experts have adopted accurate methods that enable crime scene investigators to determine which firearm was used to commit a crime. When a firearm is fired, the burnt particle from the bullet that came out of the weapon from the shooters' hand or clothes or any items around the shooting. Therefore, firearm experts can use several methods to identify the specific firearm used during the incident.

Methods Used to Identify Crime Perpetrators

There are newer methods that have emerged to identify crime perpetrators. Fingerprinting can be used to detect a broader range of gun particles (King et al., 2017). Detecting chemicals discharged, including the brand, can validate the perpetrators involved in different types of armed related crimes. Based on my experience as military officers who have handled various types of firearm and ammunition. It is a fact that specific evidence can quickly help determine who used the firearm, including the owner of the firearm. Having served the military for many years, proper training offered better insights on how to conducts an expert analysis of crime weapons.

Knowledge and training

During my training, information about rifling and marking was crucial in determining crime weapons. Other methods, such as the distance of a weapon fired, included studying the patterns of the powder residues (Emanation et al., 2017). This method was one of the most profound ways of identifying a criminal because the process included determining the make and the model of the weapon fired. The preparation training as a military officer provides me with adequate knowledge about rifling, additional education, and technology today that made me easily identify firearms. After receiving this knowledge, my confidence made me one of the best criminal investigators in the military.

Having watched the video of a person wrapping ammunition with wax paper as a strategy of erasing the markings, made me think of the levels of effectiveness of current investigation methods. Several crimes related articles present up to date methods of crime investigations. With advanced technology, modern innovation has made criminals are devising ways of escaping investigation. Having read articles on how criminals are scaling up their activities by mutilating their fingers or undergoing surgery or chewing their fingertips before being arrests brings to my attention how the work of crime scene investigators is becoming more complex. However, with modern equipment, criminals can still be arrested using other means to collect evidence.

Conclusion

Ballistic research indeed offers insights in many criminal cases. Using a range of evidence from crime scenes, investigators can efficiently perform an evaluation to present substantial evidence about crime cases. Therefore, crime scene investigators have a more prominent role in deterring crimes. They can utilize the knowledge acquired during their training to bring to book crime perpetrators.
