Cultural values in America include it customs and ideals. Some of these cultural values include; independence, equality and directness. These three values are reflected in the healthcare delivery system and influence how professionals relate with their colleagues and clients. Independence is evident in how professionals attend to clients within the healthcare system. Healthcare professionals are keen to uphold the concept of individualism by addressing the needs of a patient (Bacote, 2011). Additionally, the belief of equality is deeply rooted in the healthcare delivery system whereby all people are considered as equal irrespective of their socio-economic status, sexuality, gender, race or ethnicity. Professionals in the healthcare delivery system are expected to attend to the patients and offer them treatment without displaying any form of prejudice. In America people value directness as a value of honesty in their daily lives. This is also similar in the healthcare system whereby professionals and clients are encouraged to be frank and open when engaging to avoid conflict and misdiagnosis. Health professionals are required to be honest when treating a patient and provide them with adequate information concerning the available treatment options.

Latino Americans mainly base their identity on family values. One of the main cultural beliefs within this community is the importance of upholding family traditions and enhances the sense of belonging. As a result, Latino Americans tend to be less trusting to individuals that are not part of their families or close friends. Thus, collective loyalty to the extended family and close friends is highly valued within this community. In most instances, the decisions of an individual are mainly aimed at pleasing the family. As a result, failure of healthcare professionals to recognize the influence of a family on a patient could lead to conflict and non-compliance to healthcare services.
