In the study, data was collected using a descriptive survey method that contained demographic questions. The survey also contained open-ended questions. The major aim of the survey was to assess the current state and needs of EBP implementation in nurses in the United States (Melnyk & Kaplan, 2012). The survey was conducted over email, and it contained questions that the respondents were supposed to answer. The completion of the survey by the selected respondents meant that they agreed to take part in the survey.

The benefits of using a survey method of data collection are: the surveys can be achieved cheaper and faster compared to other methods such as experiments and observation; the data collected through the survey method is relatively easy to analyze. The drawback of the survey method of data collection include: In most case, the respondents are not willing to provide the requires information, it is characterized by human bias of respondents meaning that the respondents provide inaccurate information; and it is difficult to formulate the questions in a manner to that they will mean the same to various respondents, thus leading to differences in understanding (Nardi, 2018).

There are many important concepts that one needs to keep in mind when reviewing the data collection section in a research article. First, is the information required, where one will determine if the survey questions will help him or her meet the set objectives. Second, the researcher needs to identify if the sample data can be used to represent the whole population. Third, is the techniques used, such as mailed questionnaires. The researcher should determine if the technique used is reliable and relevant. The technique used should help the researcher reach the intended respondents (Melnyk & Kaplan, 2012). For example, in the study, email was used to reach the intended number of respondents.
