Physical abuse is a non-accidental use of force that results in a bodily injury, pain, or impairment. This includes being slapped, burned cut, bruise, or improperly physically strained. Physical abuses can happen to both children and adults. Neglect is also considered as an aspect of physical abuse, and this type of abuse often happens when one adult cares for another, such as in the case of an adult child caring for a parent.
I believe spanking if done right is a beneficial tool for parents. Spanking a child out of anger is wrong, and this should never be done. Sitting a child and discussing something, they did wrong and giving them just consequences is not wrong. I always disagree with spanking since it erodes the connection between a child and their parents and children are less likely to trust their parents. It sends a strong negative message to children. Children tend to learn that we should hit when angry or frustrated. Communicating takes a little more work, but it models important skills that the child will have in the entire life.

Spanking confuses children since they believe that parents are supposed to nurture them, love them, protect them from harm, and it happens that the same parents are hitting the child. This is a real confusion to the child. Spanking is a cruel form of punishment. Spanking and abuse go hand in hand, a parent who uses spanking as a form of discipline will more than likely continue to use it and eventually they may not be able to control themselves. That is when it turns into abuse.
